Jaws 2 Original Soundtrack High Resolution download release (Geffen records)

Recommended Posts

Have LLL, Intrada, FSM, Kritzerland, Quartet or Tadlow done any unnecessary loudening or compression on their releases from the last decade?

I know Varese has pumped the shit out of some of its releases.

Actually, the 'clipping' is within respectable limits (you should see how the waveform of dance music looks like), but I prefer to crank up the volume of the ol' Varese.

You call it "clipping"? I call it compression.

A way to diminish the difference between quiet and loud parts of an analog recording.

I don't see how this would affect a potential expanded release. This is just the OST.

Re-issuing the Witches of Eastwick's OST buggered up any chance of an expanded release; we now have to wait for that licence to expire before another record company can release that score in any form.

It probably is compression, but we talk of clipping when waves are flattened or cut at zero dB.

Yeah that waveform for the HD tracks looks pretty normal, there shouldn't be anomalies when playing this on a good sound system.

I don't own Jaws 2 in any form. Should I get it now?

Intrada just recently issued complete/chronological versions of Jaws 4 and Jaws 3. I'd wait a bit to see if they are tackling Jaws 2 and Jaws 1 as well before plunking down money on a download-only remaster of the OST program.

Absolutely! There was a time when I thought it was even better than Jaws.

There was also a time when CD stores sold the CD for 5 Euro.

I spent $40 to buy a copy on ebay and it turned out to be a cheap knockoff, and not the real deal.

I'm waiting for a specialty label physical CD version before investing again.

I spent $75 recently on the OST.

Same here. Jaws 2 is the CD I spent the biggest amount of money for, and I never regretted the purchase.

The most I ever spent on a single CD was $130 on the Godzilla 40th Anniversary: Symphonic Fantasia, conducted by Masaru Satoh. It's a live performance of Akira Ifukube's three movements. To me, it's the best of performance of it.

Godzilla CDs command stupid prices on eBay due to their scarcity but high demand. But a fanboy like me will pay because I just love the music that much.

Yes I know what's clipping too, but to me this WAV seems more compressed, than just clipped. ;)

For a common today sound system or even mp3 player, that's generally better.

Anyone here still with an old lamp system? ;)

Two different (though often related) things.

Yes, I can understand that. Money is just money, you can always make more.

But a great CD with great music, you will own and treasure your whole life!

Like I said, the waveform of Jaws 2 still looks 'normal', they didn't go overboard (especially for the norm of today). This is what they do with other music:

PS: Of course, a waveform tells us nothing about whether somebody EQ'd it or the amount of noise.
