The Three Pieces from Lincoln suite comprises of 3 movements:

I The People's House (approx. 5 minutes): Album counterparts more or lessThe People's House, parts of Freedom's Call, The American Process trumpet solo and Peterson House and Finale.

II Getting Out the Vote (approx. 3,5 minutes): Album counterpart Getting Out the Vote but the orchestrations are more elaborate in the suite.

III Elegy (approx. 3,5 minutes)

IV With Malice Toward None (approx. 4 minutes): Album counterpart With Malice Toward None but here there is a new cello introduction (uses the 4 note theme of the People's House) and the piece is extended and elaborated compared to the OST version.

What about the Gettysburg Anniversary Piece? it's also derived from Lincoln right?

No that is an entirely different piece altogether composed for a campaign video against some kind of casino proposition that threatened the historical area apparently. Basically a handful of celebrities appear on the video to appeal to people and reading Lincoln's Gettysburg Address with some accompanying underscore from the Maestro.

Here is the Capitol 4th of July performance of With Malice Toward None for solo trumpet and orchestra:

EDIT: Check the MovieMusicMaestro's post below for the video of the Gettysburg piece.

The Lincoln concert suite is actually in four movements:

I. The People's House

II. Getting Out the Vote

III. Elegy (For Two Trumpets and Strings)

IV. With Malice Toward None

'With Malice Toward None' is available in two different arrangements: one for strings (with emphasis on solo cello) and the other for solo trumpet and orchestra (originally written for Christopher Martin).

Ah thanks for elaborating Maurizio. I didn' t know they had added Elegy to the suite. Do you happen to know if it corresponds to the Elegy on the OST album?

It's slightly extended than the OST album counterpart. When JW introduced the piece during the Chicago concert last November (what a great performance that was!), he also revealed that it was originally written for the scene when Lincoln mourns the victims on the battleground.

Interesting little revelation on the spotting of the piece. I had a suspicion it was to underscore that particular moment. Could it be that the shorter version at the end of the Southern Delegation and The Dream is actually the cue meant for that scene.

I think Thor mentioned that a string orchestra in Norway also performed the Elegy at a local festival in 2013.

I do remember reading in a JW interview on the subject that that there were many other cues recorded that did not end on the film or something to that effect. Probably an extra hour worth..?

I remember that JW told in an interview that about 90 minutes of music was recorded all in all. The OST has about 50 and the FYC has a few more pieces so I think those constitute a lion's share (well over half) of the music written for the film.

Some of the information given so far is incorrect.

The Suite from LINCOLN which has been published by Hal Leonard includes these titles:

1. "The People's House" (which is a combination of "The People's House", "The Blue and Grey" and "With Malice Toward None"), ca. 5:25

2. "Getting Out the Vote", ca. 3:05

3. "Elegy" (for two trumpets and string orchestra), ca. 2:50 --- The concert version has ten bars more than the recording:

4. "With Malice toward None" (for string orchestra), ca. 3:30

5. "With Malice toward None" (for solo trumpet and orchestra), ca. 3:45 --- This is identical with this recording:

A live recording of nos. 1, 2 and 4 as performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra under the musical direction of John Williams can be heard here:

The Gettysburg music was written and recorded in 2010. You can find it here:

I don't see any resemblance or connection between the Gettysburg music and the LINCOLN score.

Ah quite right MovieMusicMaestro! Thank you for that correction!

I mixed the Gettysburg piece and the Capitol 4th of July version of the With Malice Toward None for orchestra and solo trumpet. Gettysburg composition is entirely unrelated to the Lincoln score ideas. Only the Americana writing is the thing in common.

The music used on the "No Casino Gettysburg" was first heard during the Barak Obama campaign, at the Democratic convention, in which accompanied a short video directed by Spielberg.

Always a font of knowledge on these more obscure Williams pieces Miguel! Thank you! :)

What is the official title of the piece from the Obama campaign? (Was it a Democratic National Convention video?) And is it commercially available? I want to say I've heard of something called "America, the Dream Goes On" or something like that.

The DNC video is calle A Timeless Call

The piece he wrote for president Obamas inauguration is Air and Simple gifts

America the dream goes on is an unrelated concert piece he wrote in the 80s

now I'm mixed up, is the No Casino Gettisburg part of A Timeless Call?

I don't recall ever hearing this or if it was discussed on the MB

Edit: ok I had saved a crap recording of A Timeless Call and it seems to be the same music, or maybe not exactly

I was just cleaning my bookmarks and found this video.

Why isn't this in the works of the composer in the main page and why hasn't it been discussed any further?

It's new music, right?

edit: Never mind. I found it is music from A Timeless Call.
