I'll have to hold off until the end of the month, but I've been hoping for a bit of Silvestri to add to my collection.

Prepare to be judged Intrada for this release is all sorts of epic and awesome thrown on 2 shiny discs.

I want to hold this in my hands RIGHT EFFING NOW !

Also, I take it 'We Created You' on disc 1 (which should be the film version) is the same one as we had on the '95 release which is a different recording (see disc 2). The sample makes me think it is.

I read there is an issue with this release.

Intrada meant to include the original Goldsmith recording of the trailer music, but it was pointed out by some, that it actually contains a re-recording and most likely the McNeely one..

Response:

We're investigating. The intent was to present Goldsmith's own recording of course. We didn't take this off the Varese CD, we had a master DAT for the trailer. We'll get to the bottom of this and fix address immediately.

Well LLL has sent out replacement discs before with sets like their Danny Elfman Batman due to a minor defect in a track. Well, I would call this a pretty big defect!

Has it been shipped out yet to customers?

Given that it's up on certain places already, I think it has shipped.

By "fix" does this mean reissuing the set with the corrected track?

Or offer to download a lossless version of the track for free.

At least, that would be much cheaper for them.

That would be a logical thing to do, I think, but we'll see. Depends on how much money they want to spend on rectifying the issue.

It also depends on who's mistake it is. if they were given the wrong recording maybe they dont have to pay for a repressing.

I wonder, if it really is the McNeely version, that would mean that Intrada accidentally released a recording of which they may nbot in fact own the rights too

Screen Archives has it in stock (I saw it when I was at their shop yesterday), but I'm not sure if they've shipped any out to customers.

There will always be people that order this and not care about the Goldsmith piece. They just want one of Silvestri's highlights of his career and if I had ordered it already, I don't think I would obsess over it.

Just an update that we've been working all weekend to secure the proper master. The award goes to Neil Bulk for his resourcefulness. We'll have an updated master going to the plant within the next couple of days. Anyone who has the set is of course welcome to an upgrade.

Karol, you should trade yours for the version featuring Neil's resourcefulness.

So one must chose between McNeely and Neil, ironically!

That's not ironic!

It is if you do it ironically!

Quite frankly, the sound of the drums alone are so drastically different from the original version to McNeely's re-recording, I'm amazed this wasn't noticed by the first person who worked on this, let alone the second, third, however many people the approval process on this. Oh well - luckily, no permanent harm is done as they are offering re-pressings for free. Big  to Intrada for that!

The score rocks. It's all built from Silvestri's trademark licks but turned up to a godly thunder - just forget the suspense material. DREDD, PREDATOR 2 and VAN HELSING form a glorious triptychon of orchestral hellraising that sure ain't subtle but it rules like an Iron Maiden concert.

I really can't stomach Van Helsing, apart from the finale cue.

I just don't like it. Trust me, I've had 11 years to try. ;)

Anyway, regarding the replacement discs:

Roger on FSM board:

Just send a check for $25 and the old disc and we'll send a new one. Seriously, though, if you ordered from Intrada you will be sent a replacement automatically, so there is nothing to do. if you ordered from someone else, they will have replacements. Whether you need to request one or they'll send one automatically I can't say.

If you knew about the Facebook history between Neil S. Bulk and Joel McNeelly then you would think it ironic.

Can you explain, for those who are not partial to such things?

  • 3 weeks later...

Apparently, some people already received theirs. I've ordered Tomorrowland and Up this week so that's why it hasn't shipped yet.

Can’t tell much of a difference between the last 4 album assembly tracks and it’s revisions/alternates. ‘Angel Family’ cue (disc 2 track 20 ) is rearranged/reedited/assembled from portions of both versions.

The best version of the DREDD trailer remains unreleased. I checked an old boot we got back when our Goldsmith site was running and it contains a brass lick and different orchestrations than the Intrada one. Ah well...

You sure that's not the McNeely? ;)

The trailer cue starts strangely, like a few seconds are missing. But what a sweet minute of Goldsmith goodness it remains.
