Hans Zimmer!

Versus...

John Williams!

Begin!

(P.S. Surprise composer enters rap battle after both Zimmer and Williams go twice)

That's a good one mnac87. I think the rest of the guys here totally misunderstood the project, though. It wasn't about bashing Zimmer and applauding Williams -- it was about each side 'riffing' on the other. But I wasn't really expecting anything else at this place.

If you haven't seen them, this whole thing'll sail right over your head. . . .

mnac87 unquestionably wins the day, though this was a pretty good finish too:

Where is the surprise composer?

Hey Johnny, hey Hansy, you guys are ok,

But I'm fuckin' Horner and I'm here to say,

Your beatz be droppin' panties, I won't give you no grief,

But homies you got nothin' on my danger moti

William Ross, I'm the boss of the Chamber
Orchestrations got your whole crew in danger
Johnny Williams called, I said fuck it
I got your music adapted and conducted
You think you oughtta write another Harry Potter?
I said, fuck it man, don't bother
You already wrote one, don't waste it
I got my Xerox, I'll copy and paste it
Till the writing police confiscate our pens
It's William and Williams, the reunion of friends

Thank you, GreyPilgrim and everyone else here for your contributions.

Now picking up from my post (and you'll be getting your surprise composer, BloodBoal).

Zimmer:

Oh, please, gramps.

Let the new school through.

This Lone Ranger knows how to beat you.

Your music and cues may flow like water,

Yet somehow you overdid Harry Potter.

Your ego's as big as the shadow you cast,

But all you ever do is steal from the past.

Hearing Star Wars, Hook, and Home Alone II,
Stravinsky would surely bitch-slap you.

My sense of style can beat your class.

I'll go Kung Fu Panda on your ass.

Williams:

Do you compose like you retort?

I got better praise for Minority Report.

Like Backdraft, I got you feelin' the heat.

This old War Horse just can't be beat.

Your vision is like your legacy: narrow.

It's like rapping against a Broken Arrow.

This Prince of Egypt thinks he's a king.

Reality check, boy. Here's the thing:

you can try and Catch Me if you Can,

but the internet says that "I'm the Man!"

Zimmer:

Big talk for a guy who needs a barber.

Williams:

You score more bombs than Pearl Harbor.

Zimmer:

My samples rock.

Williams:

I got a legacy.

Zimmer:

I'll clean your clock!

Williams:

I'm legendary!

(Zimmer and Williams lock eyes in a death stare)

Surprise composer (in the distance):

Did someone say my name?

Zimmer and Williams look up to the sky.

Here he comes, riding in on his Firebird. The one, the only...

BqWeFQrIQAAgFVr.jpg

Williams and Zimmer:

Stravinsky?

Stravinsky:

How dare you two try and match your styles.

Your music never had folks fightin' in the aisles.

My work influenced the both of you,

So don't bitch about who's better than who.

Williams!

There's nothing wrong with borrowing my work,

But do it too much and they'll think you're a jerk.
Your legacy is something to behold,

But let the new blood in. You're getting old.

Zimmer!

You're repetitive due to your stagnation.
Try spending less time at a MIDI station.

Samples are great, but the real thing's greater.

Now, both of you! Reconcile!

Later!

(Flies away on his Firebird)

WHO WON?

YOU DECIDE!

WHOSE NEXT?

EPIC COMPOSER RAP BATTLES OF HISTORY!

Igor.

Prediction: people who would have otherwise ignored this thread will now come out of the woodwork to ensure JW is "victorious" against whoever his polling opponents are, either the modern master of the synth or the master of modernism.

I cast my usual vote when I want to be both inscrutable and unbiased: Eowyn.

Hence inscrutable. To some at least I see. ;)

But you guys have been bustin' some good rhymes here. Kudos!

Pardon me, my good sir, but don't you believe that in this context, a vote is ideally cast to someone who was...

oh, I don't know...

actually in the preceding rap battle?

Nah that would be the easy way out! Eowyn it is!

Oh who am I kidding! It is Williams! Williams all the way!

To glory and victory go now John Williams!

Denied cannot be o thy magnificent brilliance,

not by any man who has even a glimmer

of wit or of wisdom not even by Zimmer.

Stravinsky a master yet more masterful even,

the friend of ol' George and of Sugar-Land Steven,

the Maestro of music, of cinema's magic,

at home in a comedy, drama so tragic,

no stranger to thunderous pomp or the action,

indirectly even worked with Peter Jackson,

Unnumbered your honours, immortal your glory,

your notes have all graced this world's musical story!

Actually, it reads more like straight-up poetry, and may I say that it's very flattering indeed.

All the same, I'm personally looking forward to do more epic rap battles between composers.

Which pair ought to be done next? The possibilities are endless.

I think I'll start with Elfman and JNH first. I'm far more familiar with their work than the other match-ups suggested.

Thank you. It was not meant as follow-up to the rap battle but as mere ode to Johnny.

And Howard Shore VS Christopher Young would be interesting.

8 lines sounds good, but can the number of rhymes be open to each poster? Might make them sound less contrived, more off the cuff etc..

Sure. I just want to make sure that after 8 lines, the other side gets to go.Edit: It's now 10 lines per rapper.

Where is the surprise composer? It's already the seventh post!

Nobody has rapped out lines for Zimmer yet, and as such, the rap battle hasn't begun yet.

Here. I'll start.

Zimmer:

I'm a Gladiator full of surprises.

Step back and watch as this Dark Knight Rises.

I'm a Man of Steel, you're the Last Samurai

of a dying breed, and it's obvious why.

I go digital while you still plunk at the piano.

A one-hundred-man union orchestra? Hell no!

I could give Elfman lessons, my music's so dark.

I'm the film score future. You're Jurassic Park.

You can't beat me, Papa Smurf, so spare me the drama.

Just make like E.T. and go phone home to your mama.

Williams:

You jest me, lad, but let's set things straight.

What timeless scores did you make as of late?

Your music ain't new. You got no direction.

All I hear from you lately is recycled Inception.

You got musical clout, but you lack finesse,

and I got you kissin' the Sugarland Express.

I got Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, E.T.

My Superman can beat yours easy.

Why so serious? Why the Dark Knight frown?

Oh, that's right. I just took this Black Hawk Down!

How do we go about promoting this guy here?

EPIC POST IS EPIC.

Fo' sho. There oughta be one for the Composer's Challenge folks alone—an album release for each competition.
