Score Survey

I have created a 20 question survey and I would be very grateful if you could participate. It shouldn't take more than 3 minutes. The first page has general score questions and the second has composer specific questions. Once a satisfactory number of responses have been recorded, I will share the results which I believe will be quite interesting.

Click to take survey.

Thanks in advance.

That was a fun survey. Very specific questions, to be sure, but that's part of what made it so interesting. Never thought I'd be answering questions like that on this subject.

I think I'm most curious to see the collective opinions concerning each composer. Can't wait to read the results. . . .

Thanks. I'm going to look at the responses each day. When it gets down to less than 5 a day, I'll close the survey and post the results. This could happen within days or a week or two. It all depends on when people complete the survey. I have 74 responses so far but I'd like a larger population if possible.

I delibriately wrote specific questions and answers especially in the composer section because I wanted the most accurate responses which may not have been possible from broader questions.

I've received 211 completed surveys so far with is really great. If you haven't taken it yet, I'd really appreciate it if you could.

I'll keep the survey open for as long as I'm getting participants and I'll share the results as soon as I analyse them.

Question 18 lacks the option "I don't mind that his themes are not always original, I enjoy the music regardless."

This seems to point at a bias towards James Horner by whoever made this poll. Especially considering the self-referencing of other composers is not addressed at all

I agree that I should have included that option. However, by the time I realised my omission about 100 people had already done the survey so for the sake of consistency, I decided not to change it. Lesson learned though.

I specifically mentioned Horner's reuse of material because he is probably most infamous for it and it often arises in reviews or discussions of his newer work more frequently than other composers.

For the record, I have been a Horner fan since I first started collecting scores so I'm not at all bias towards him. His reuse doesn't bother me too much. It's more of a distraction than an annoyance.
