Great news! Gloria Cheng is a fantastic pianist (she's played the piano parts in John Williams and James Horner's recording sessions for a few years now), apart from a champion of contemporary music.

This is awesome news! I was waiting for years for a piano solo concert piece by JW.

What he said! I've been waiting for a JW piano piece forever (since the piano sonata will probably never see the light of day). Finally we get to hear a concert piece for John Williams' MAIN instrument!

Tremendous news. We've really had a lot of them recently, haven't we?

Great great news. Hope there will be a published score!

Same here. A while back, I contacted the soloist that premiered Rounds and asked him if he knew about the score being published to which he replied he hoped for such a release soon. Hope the same applies for this new work.

Great news!!! This is the response I got from the concert venue:

Thank you for your interest in the Mendocino Music Festival! Unfortunately we will not be able to record Gloria Cheng’s concert. I let her know of your interest, and she asked me to tell you that she will premiere a third movement (not yet finished) in November on the Piano Spheres series in Los Angeles. If there are more movements forthcoming after that, she’ll introduce them at subsequent recitals. She will record the entire set when John Williams says the piece is finished.

So we're getting at least one more movement, and an eventual recording!

Oh there is more piano music on the way! The Maestro just doesn't stop does he. He sure keeps the pencil moving. :)

Absolutely. Finished or not finished, I'm extremely curious about this. It's been a lifelong dream to hear a non-film piece for piano by Williams.

On November 12, Grammy-winning pianist Gloria Cheng will perform the world premieres of several original piano works by major film composers for the Opening Night program, entitled “Montage.” Academy Award-winning composers John Williams (Star Wars, Schindler’s List), Michael Giacchino (Up, Star Trek) and Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.) who composed a piece in homage to Alfred, Emil and Lionel Newman, are featured on the program, as well as Bruce Broughton (Silverado) and Don Davis (The Matrix).

According to the article, this is the full program of the concert:

Bruce Broughton – “Five Pieces for Piano”
Don Davis – "Surface Tension” (World Premiere)
Alexandre Desplat – “Trois Études” (U.S. Premiere)
Michael Giacchino – “Composition 430” (World Premiere)
Randy Newman – “Family Album: Homage to Alfred, Emil and Lionel Newman” (World Premiere)
John Williams – Conversations” (World Premiere)
Olivier Messiaen – “Preludes” (Audience Choice)
The article also mentions that all composers are expected to be present at the event.

So excited! There will be at least a recording of Conversations once JW finishes the piece.
