Prometheus Records Thread

We don't seem to have a thread for these guys. I had NO idea they had been around for 30 years! They seem to only release a handful of CDs per year, most of them re-recordings co-created with Tadlow and the City of Prague orchestra.

They don't seem to have an official website, and I don't even know if there is a listing of all their titles available online anywhere?

Anyways, SAE is having a sale on 12 of their titles, and they might interest some people:

Aha, excellent, thank you!

Looks like Basic Instinct and Cutthroat Island are the only titles of theirs I have.

Ooops, missed that in the list. Yup, I have Images so that's three.

Can anyone recommend any of the sale titles?

I have the Goldsmith and the Poledourises.

None of the Poledouris scores are clear highlights, but they're mostly worth it. I'm relatively unfamiliar with Amerika, because it's rather long, but it has at least a strong cello solo and a nicely positive, propulsive cue with slight touches of minimalism. The other three scores are dominated by Poledouris' characteristic lyricism. Fire on the Mountain (coupled with Flyers) has touches of Americana, Flyers is more on the grand side. I'd recommend at least this disc if you like Poledouris.

Contract on Cherry Street is a late 70s thriller score with touches of Omen stylings (sans the choir or satanism) and jazzy elements. I've never given it much attention, though I probably should. It's certainly worth having if your Goldsmith interest goes beyond just the big hits.
