Good news or bad, Star Wars can’t stay away from the headlines right now, from Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne visiting the set and Ford’s accident to the confirmation that music maestro John Williams is only composing the score for Episode VII and not all three sequel films. No doubt something will happen tomorrow to spring the saga back into the news, but for the time being fans of Ford can rest knowing that his surgery was a success and he is healing well.

That's because of a tweet from the Official Star Wars account. They said that Williams is only confirmed for Episode VII. I imagine they'll wait until after that before worrying about VIII and IX.

I think there was confusion from KK when she said he was doing all three but on the site they only ever confirmed VII.

The context is: @starwars on Twitter was responding to #askstarwars fan questions - mostly in-universe questions, etc - and they responded to one about whether John Williams was scoring the spin-offs. @StarWars incorrectly responded that Williams was confirmed for the new trilogy only. Star Wars fans got a bit worked up that this was news for Ep VIII-EpIX, and @StarWars saw that response and quickly deleted that tweet and sent a correction. I don't think the social media person at Lucasfilm had any inside info

Oh, I see what you're getting at - I wasn't aware of any official confirmation of Ep VIII/IX. I just know that @StarWars, while it's run officially, is not necessarily a source that is informed about SW news developments. They usually post meme pictures and retweet other people about Star Wars

No, but Kathleen Kennedy said he was involved in all three films.

Here is her full quote (video

): "I had breakfast with someone very important to the 'Star Wars' family on Friday and he has committed to being involved in the next three films, and that is Mr. John Williams."

And Williams also said this: "I look forward to returning to a galaxy far, far away. I actually feel like I never left it. I hope I can contribute something in the new films that will be worthy of your continued attention."

So, the tweet is contradicting was Kennedy and Williams have previously said. Although, to be fair, Williams' quote is worded in such a way that doesn't really commit him to the trilogy. He simply said "contribute," and would apply if another composer used a theme of his in the following films. There may be a quote from Abrams as well, but I'm too lazy to look right now.

That was my first thought when I read the news. It makes sense; while it's not something people want to talk about (especially in news releases), there's just no way to guarantee the future involvement of someone who's blessed to still be working well into their 80s. If he's still hale and hearty when VIII comes around, I can't see that there's any possibility they would refuse him the opportunity to score it. Likewise with IX.

They're taking it one film at a time. I'd assume JW has signed contracts, etc, for the first one, but has indicated he's interested in doing them all if he's able to.

I think you're right. Since Episode VIII won't come out until 2017, he probably hasn't officially signed on to score even though he has expressed interest in scoring all three. The fact that Kennedy says he's committed to all three films makes a difference as well.

Possibly, but people thought Giacchino would score Episode VII when Abrams was announced to direct. I have no doubt Williams would have first dibs especially since he has expressed interest. They know how important Williams is to the franchise.

He left Potter because of a conflict with Memoirs of a Geisha and Munich that winter. After that I think he probably would have done Order of the Phoenix if he had been asked, but David Yates already had a working relationship with Nicholas Hooper. Then Hooper dropped out for Deathly Hallows, and they went with Desplat. "Scheduling conflict" was the official excuse for Williams not doing Part 2, but I never heard anything about why he didn't do Part 1, unless they simply didn't ask.

We have it here. A lot of the articles are picked up from other local newspapers .It's good to get a summary of the day's news but it's probably not 100% accurate
