I've yet to hear a school orchestra ever play this well. Same goes for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

It's probably because the LA Phil's helicopter section is consistently out of tune.

i also like the 4 chicks doing E.t.

I bet E.T. would like 4 chicks doing him too! :sigh:

I actually really liked that song! Never heard of Gnarls Barkley though. But damn good performance, and awesome costumes.

Edit: Checking out some links for them I found out that they dress up with pop culture costumes quite often, they were pictured in Clockwork Orance costumes for something else.

Cool stuff!

Wow, I've never seen the video of the Oscars medley. Thanks for sharing!

And this was the caption from the person who posted their high school's performance of Battle of the Heroes:

this is our symphony orchestra playing some starwars song.

ROTFLMAO

But that wasn't too bad for a youth symphony. It's funny what I expect from each section of that piece, after hearing the LSO recording so much. And then you hear that....

Really nice performance... The cymbal clashes sounded like someone scraping two metallic objects together. lol

Shame the choir lowered the octave at the end..

I felt it was a bit fast but the fact that they ..did it...a High School ochestra...at THAT speed...and pulled it off... definately means something lol

well BoTH isnt a hard piece. its actually very easy; look at the score. the only hard part is the hard rhythm parts in the middle, and the high trumpet parts. the star wars main title on the other hand is MUCHHHHH harder. much more technically demanding.

as true as that is, I've heard COLLEGE orchestras that couldn't pull this off.

I mean, the horns didn't split... they were able to get out that rythm and at that speed.
The violas were loud and you could hear them and it didn't sound like crap...
The balance was a little wonky, but it may even just be how it was recorded...

Still good video hehe!

My current Youtube favorite is the Pixar short shown before Cars, One Man Band. A wonderful short, featuring terrific music by Michael Giacchino. Oviousaly the quality is lacking, but I assure, on the big screen, it also looks fantastic.

That short film is the reason why Pixar is still the No.1 animation studio in the world.
