Would you rather:

A) Buy a Burger King smoothie?
B) Watch a soccer game?
C) Go listen to the Airplane! soundtrack?

The strawberry/banana smoothie is good, by the way.

@Wojo: stop being facetious.

Here is a real treat: An amateur footage of ELMER BERNSTEIN CONDUCTING AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL (almost the full concert):

It's lovely to see ELMER BERNSTEIN conducting his very own scores, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and THE GREAT ESCAPE.

Thanks for posting that, chuckster, I was at that Proms concert (14th August 2001, if you're interested, with the BBC Concert Orchestra). There was some other good stuff in it not included on that video, such as A Place in the Sun and Taxi Driver. Elmer returned to the Royal Albert Hall the following year (I think) for his 80th birthday concert, which was great too.
His mouth is full of bees!

Here's a funny, and very Lynch-ian, story of how the two gentlemen met.

Karol
From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate. - Christopher Nolan

Can anyone help me identify the name of the piece performed at the beginning of this video? Sounds like John Williams, it has all of his trademarks there but I'm not familiar with any of his classical non-film score works:

Summon the Heroes (1996 Olympic Games official theme)
"It's still baffling to me. I sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper and do my best... The remarkable thing is that my music is heard by billions of people." --John Williams

"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

Why Star Wars is sexist. While their characterization of Leia might be accurate, the male characters have similar if not worse flaws than she does, so I'm not sure that part is accurate. That said, there's definitely not a lot of strong female role models in the OT.

This is my recent arrangement of Carrie main theme for vibes and flute I've written in memory of my dear friend's Dad who passed away (cancer) a couple of years ago, and was a great musician and a very nice guy. However, his son (himself a soundtrack junkie) organises a wind band film music concert every year (for the last 5 years), and this arrangement was performed at the last concert, a month or so ago. Both girls did a great job but unfortunately they gave a wrong mike to the flute player so the sound is not too good (she plays much better than can be heard here). Well anyway I thought y'all should have an opportunity to hear this; hope you like it. :)

I don't know if someone have already noticed that here but the first tv channel in France took the music of Jaws for the opening of their news programs:
(Old version and new version)

And here a guy who explains how they changed the Williams theme to make their opening music : (in french)
