Why do I have the feeling another member is going to use the Gandalf on this banner as his avatar?

In my opinion, the banner is impressive :)
"I get asked all the time, 'What happens after Return of the Jedi?,' and there really is no answer for that. The movies were the story of Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker, and when Luke saves the galaxy and redeems his father, that's where that story ends."

I saw this on Steef's sig and was wondering where the hell he got it from (cause I wanted a closer look obviously). And I finally checked this thread again. Wow! That's amazing. And as Jason said, it's the best thing to have come out of marketing since the trailer. All of its beautiful. And Beorn looks so awesome!

Higher quality (and resolution) version to be found here. That Gandalf is definitely for Incanus' avatar!

I was going to take it for myself. But I have no idea how you guys make your avatars so long in shape (Jason, Alice, etc). The shape keeps getting condensed into a square.

Yes, I'm not very good at using this board's features.

You don't have to do anything special. I just used the "Snipping Tool" that comes with Windows 7 to take the portion of the image I wanted, saved that to my desktop, then just uploaded it as my avatar and I was done

why all the eagles have they tails widespread? It makes sense on the nearest one as it¡s in the posture of landing.. but the rest ALL of them that are supposed to be flying straight...

and the second, those wing proportions look like a buteo hawk...

Otherwise, awesome banner. ;)

Alright, but the problem is they often end up being too big. How did you get your avatars to be as big as they are?

Does it matter if the Eagles of Middle-Earth are anatomically correct in this fantasy world? They're a race of super-intelligent, long-lived super-birds that hail from Valinor and so may have more in common with those ethereal spirits than their fine feathered mortal counterparts.

Are the orcs scientifically accurate? The trolls? The hobbits? How about the oliphaunts? Or the giant spiders borne from Shelob?
I suggest a full frontal assault with automated laser monkeys, scalpel mines, and acid.

Your avatar has to be no more than 150 pixels WIDE, but can be some absurd amount HIGH ( I forget the exact number). If you go over 150 pixels wide, it usually won't accept your upload

Ahh. Thanks Jason, I'll keep that in mind.

So with these latest pics, we know that the barrel scene is probably where the film will cut off. But that doesn't leave very much for the 2nd part. I wonder what they're planning for the sequel then...

yes it does matter. they are depicted as golden eagles so they have to match them. If not they should have created a completely new animal.

If humans in Middle earth had proportionately longer arms than us for no reason, eveyone would notice and complain.

The oliphaunts are right i suppose. But im sure TOlkien, being southafrican, had African elephants in mind when he created them, not asian elephants.... So they should resemble the former. Big ears specially.

I believe I predicted that split point once.

In the book, it leaves quite a bit for a second part - there's a lot of chapters after they leave Lake Town, as that's where the story basically goes from an episodic "there (and back again)" to a more rich and character based setting. The difference is that for the movie, they'll probably have to flesh out the journey quite a bit, but then I'm sure they can fit all kinds of character moments into the second film to compensate.

The first film might end with the company looking at the Lonely Mountain on the horizon. I've been imagining it this way for months. The first film will be a perfect mirror of Fellowship of the Ring. There and Back Again is the wildcard.

Storytime with The Hobbit.

I love TheOneRing.net's idea of looking at the new banner as a storybook for the Tolkien purists. Basically this link is their speculations about what each scene denotes. It's spoiler-free for anyone whose read the book.

Enough of this Avatar nonsense! Quint and Ren are back at it again (to all our woe)! And we have yet ANOTHER Gandalf on this board!!! If only people were happy with two...

It's funny that Wojo chose to stick with Gandalf the White....that was my gig ;) I only changed to Gandalf the Grey temporarily for the upcoming film.
