Human aggression is instinctual. Humans have not evolved any ritualised aggression-inhibiting mechanisms to ensure the survival of the species. For this reason man is considered a very dangerous animal.

In October, Warner Home Entertainment will bring Little Shop of Horrors to Blu-ray. This 1986 adaptation of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's popular off-Broadway musical - which, in turn, took its inspiration from Roger Corman's 1960 cult classic - stars Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters) as Seymour Krelborn, a meek florist who forms an unusual bond with a man-eating plant called Audrey II (voiced by Four Tops member Levi Stubbs).

Warner will include two digitally remastered versions of the film on one disc - the theatrical edition and a director's cut, which features a restored twenty-minute alternate ending. The Blu-ray also contains the following supplements:

  • Commentary by director Frank Oz
  • Frank Oz and Little Shop of Horrors: The Director's Cut introduction
  • A Story of Little Shop of Horrors behind-the-scenes featurette
  • Outtakes
  • Deleted scenes
  • Theatrical trailers

Huge fan of this movie, I could quote it from beginning to end when I was a kid. Doesn't even matter that it's a digibook (the only other one I have is Citizen Kane, so it'll be in good company), day one purchase. :)

Got Hugo 3D for my birthday. It has substantially more ghosting than other 3D films due to the darker palette and a lot of metal, but it's a wonderful film.

Grabbed a bunch of titles at bargain price (9€ each): War of the Worlds, Inception, Pulp Fiction and North By Northwest.

I also noticed the Jurassic Park films has been released as single discs, all with their extra features ported over (I thought they were available only as a boxset).
"It's still baffling to me. I sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper and do my best... The remarkable thing is that my music is heard by billions of people." --John Williams

"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

No, digibooks are never released over here apparently. The only ones I saw are the recent Universal 100th Anniversary editions.

well, not here either, but I mostly make my BLuray purchases from the internet (amazon.com, play.com, amazon.co.uk)
It's very expensive here in Greece.
Some times the triple amount of that in Amazon.
(eg. I purchesd Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 for 20 euros in amazon, and if I got the 2 movies from here, it would be 62 euros!!!)

The Twilight time Blurays' price for which many are complaining, is the regular price of BLurays here..

The only new extra features are the Spielberg interview and the full John Toll behind-the-scenes footage (part of which was used in the 1996 Laserdisc and the 2002 DVD documentaries). All the other extras are ported over from the previous DVD release.

This is the US box that adds North By Northwest into the set!
Which one do you prefer?

Posted Image

While the exact technical specifications are still unknown for the individual discs, Universal's press release notes that the fifteen pictures have been "digitally restored from high-quality film elements."

in addition to the lots of extras in the individual discs, Torn Curtain features
Selected scenes scored by Bernard Herrmann
No isolated score unfortunately for Family Plot.

Jason, you devil!

Karol
From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate. - Christopher Nolan

Well, the other Hitchcock box is obviously better-looking. The American box seems more compact and practical, even if it appears like they just ran out of room for Hitchcock's name with a big font size. I wish we were getting another new movie instead of North By Northwest.

The E.T. spaceship from the German set is awful. Looks like a big McDonald's toy, grossly inaccurate to the legendary McQuarrie ship. The thrusters are comically oversized.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Decided to pick this up after receiving the LLL CD. Can't really blame the sub par quality of the music since they hadn't done a restoration yet, but the picture quality is awful, the amount of DNR applied makes it look like an embossed image in Microsoft Photo Editor. Strangely the theatrical trailers included looked beautiful with all natural film grain present. It's not quite as bad as The Untouchables, so some dickhead at Paramount doesn't know what he's doing.
