Die Hard 5 has a new lead

Posted Image

Die Hard 5 has announced some big news today, with Spartacus: Blood And Sand actor Jai Courtney confirmed as the new star of the upcoming action sequel.

Don’t worry though, Bruce Willis hasn’t been condemned to the scrapheap just yet – he’ll be back on board as maverick cop John McClane, while Courtney will play his son, Jack.

Courtney reportedly beat out The Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth to play a character described by the official press release as, “an apple that has not fallen far from the tree.”

Indeed, the release goes on to claim that, “Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father.” You can see the pair together above, in an official image from the two actors’ screen-test together.

What in the name of fuck? They gave McClane a son? And he's supposed to be more badass than McClane? What the fuck, man?!

And I just learned the title of the film: A Good Day To Die Hard. Seriously? Have we hit rock bottom in terms of lousy film titles?

Christopher Nolan's longtime cinematographer Wally Pfister is getting set to direct his feature film debut, from a screenplay by new writer Jack Paglen. The movie is untitled for the time being (the plot is under wraps too), but it's being fast-tracked for an early fall shooting date. Alcon Entertainment is producing the film, where it has a distribution deal with Warner Brothers.

http://www.deadline....-wally-pfister/

Will he follow his close friend and hire Zimmer to score? Or will Pfister go for a more orchestral composer?

"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

Hmm....it might be possible that this film will be worse than the first one! :o

But there might be one redeeming feature, and thats Javier Navarette's score. Here's a recent interview:

Some cool stuff in it, indeed.

Could you tell us about your working relationship with Jonathan?

I had an excellent collaboration with him. He first asked me to do a theme immediately after I saw the first ten minutes of movie assembled. What I did then is still in the movie, and became later, even after many changes, the ground for the main themes of the movie. Jonathan is a lover of classic and contemporary scores, and knows very well about them. He played me some excellent stuff in different points of the creative process, but never asked me to do this or that, just to follow my instincts.

Good, a director that let the composer do his thing. Good.

Did Ramin Djawadi’s score for the first “Clash” have any bearing on your approach for the sequel?

Not really, though I admire Djawadi’s work, and “Clash of the Titans” in particular. Jonathan didn’t like the idea of being tied to the previous movie though. He wanted to make a point of this one being different. In our first talks, it was clear to me that I didn’t have to deal with themes or ideas of “Clash.” Moreover, Jonathan wanted a very dramatic approach to the score. He said he didn’t like ‘action’ music but dramatic music. I hope something of that beautiful idea has remained, even if our evolution, as we knew better about the movie, was getting more and more into action music.

Good, this is good!

How did you want to balance out the score’s more classically orchestral / instrumentally ethnic possibilities with the modern musical demands of a blockbuster?

It’s been a work in progress. The sore started out more orchestral and classical and then became more loopy and programmed and “heavy” sounding.

Oh, fuck! So close!

I have never seen the remake, it just looks awful.

I have the Harryhausen film on blu, mainly for the extras, it's a pretty weak film on it's own.

sorry folks, it's Die Hard then Die Hard 2, then shit like Die hard 3 with a terrible villain and then worse shit like die hard 4 except timothy Olaphant is always enjoyable, he's much better than Jeromy Irons as a nazi.

Die Hard is the only one that is great, but Die Hard 2 has planes which makes it superior to boats and an F-35 attacking when they arn't in service yet. 3 and 4 without Bonnie Bedelia lack soul.

2 also has the awesome death by icicle.....ugggghhhhh.

I laughed when they screened the trailer and there's "from Hasbro - the creator of Transformers". Or something like that.

Karol
From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate. - Christopher Nolan

I thought it was going to be a drama but now I'm surprised. It would have been interesting to see another of Burton's angles at drama. Guess we'll have to wait for another film.

If this is some sort of Burtonian horror comedy, I'm in, anyway.

The Frankenweenie film is failing so far at catching my attention. I wonder what he'll do afterwards.
