Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Andy, and I've been a JW fan just about all my life. Been lurking here for a long time, and the Indy box set as drawn me out, so to speak. I've seen Williams live at the Hollywood Bowl, and in my home town of Rochester, NY to receive his honorary doctorate at the Eastman School of Music. I have been collecting his music since '77, and have amassed a pretty decent collection. SW, Indy, Jaws 1&2, Home Alone 1&2, E.T., CE3K, Hook, Empire of the Sun, Dracula, 1941, Amazing Stories, Potter, the Cowboys, Jurassic Park 1&2, and Witches of Eastwick. I hope my Williams street cred is up to par here... I finally got around to sending Mr. Williams a letter and photo for him to autograph this summer. Haven't got it back yet, but I've heard it can take him a while.

Anyways, after lurking here a while, a few questions popped up, and I hope it's okay to ask these here:

1. Will the Fury complete score ever be re-released? I somehow missed that one.

2. Is the Second Printing of the Superman Box Set any different than the first? Why is it such an expensive set? I have the Rhino, and have always enjoyed Ken Thorne's take, but yowza, that's a pricey set... but seriously am considering it.

3. How likely are we to see an officially released expanded Hook score? It’s always been one of my favorites, and I’m lucky enough to have a copy of the Concorde boot from the old days of Napster, but have always been frustrated with the sound quality.

4. How do you do a DVD rip with a Mac? What are the popular venues for sharing and downloading rips and edits (private message me if it can’t be posted).

5. I’ve been reading the current Indiana Jones thread and have been quite interested in hearing about edits and rips that members have made, such as the KOTCS expanded score. What’s the most polite way to request files from members? I don’t want to be greedy or rude, but wow, I’d love to get just about all of Williams’ music, and it sounds like there’s a lot out there!

Anyways, just tipping my hat to all of my fellow fans, and saying it's nice to be here.

Hi, I'm Hedji and I'm a JWFan...

That's how these things should start.

1. Maybe, maybe not. ;)
2. I think it's missing the book, I'm not sure. It's so expensive because it contains Supermans I-IV as well as stuff from the animated series. Superman the Movie also has vastly superior audio quality vs. the Rhino release.
3. Someday, hopefully.
4. And here I thought Macs were superior. :P Actually I don't think we're permitted to discuss that anymore.
5. The PM (Private Message) system is the way to go.

The FSM 2nd Edition Blue box contains the exact same contents of the 1st edition, to include the book. The only difference is that it says 2nd edition.

You get the full scores of the first 4 Superman films with alternates, source cues, songs and the animated 1988 series that used Williams' theme. For 8 discs and a detailed book I'd say $120.00 is money well spent if you can afford it.

Good to have you.
Do you like John Williams? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Jaws came out in '75 I really think he came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and an air of consummate professionalism that really gives the pieces a big boost. He's been compared to Jerry Goldsmith but I think John has a far more leitmotif-driven style of composing. In '82 John composed this, E.T., his most accomplished album to date. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "The Magic of Halloween", a theme so catchy most people don't listen to what it means. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of childhood and the importance of friendship, it's also a personal statement about the man himself. Hey Paul!

Welcome to the forums ....for Superman the second pressing has the book...so John, who ever told you it doesn't told you wrong. There really is no difference between the first and second editions, except the second edition just has the words "second edition" printed on the inside of the book. I should know as my copy is from the second edition. John is correct it is expensive (but worth the price) because it includes complete and remastered versions of not only the first one but all four scores plus from the animated series by Ron Jones. It's well worth the purchase.

The remastering for the FSM Superman is much more superior to that of the Rhino Edition.
