No, we've spoken, and I actually thought things were going pretty well until she defriended me on Facebook a while back. Since then, I've had a hard time gauging whether she just wanted to move on or she was actually mad at me. Our mutual friend did say that he thought she'd be willing to talk (or civil enough to tell me that she wasn't), and that it could potentially be a good thing for her. So I've got pretty mixed feelings on the issue. I'm also just about to graduate from college and enter an environment where it's going to be a lot easier for me to meet girls - I know, that's not how it usually works - and I kinda feel like it'd be nice to get some closure now, rather than waiting another year or something.

In any case, I wasn't planning on calling...I'd just write her an email or Facebook message or something.

:D

Datameister- I would just let her be. Best not open old wounds, whether they are still there or not.

Maglorfin- Happy Birthday to your girlfriend!

I'll be watching the Bruins/Canadiens game. I don't know if I'm watching it at home or at a bar.

Datameister:
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Never. Ever. Ever. Ever. Ever. EVER. NEVER. EVER EVER open up contact with someone from a former serious relationship.

Not even to be a "good person." I know this, first hand, second hand, third hand, fourth hand, and fifth hand.

If you can apply the adjectives "serious," "long term," "steady," or "committed" to the relationship. Run AWAY and don't look back.

So I've got pretty mixed feelings on the issue. I'm also just about to graduate from college and enter an environment where it's going to be a lot easier for me to meet girls - I know, that's not how it usually works - and I kinda feel like it'd be nice to get some closure now, rather than waiting another year or something.

Let me put it to you another way. You don't need to reopen old wounds to get that closure. Here's why:

"Nothing helps you get over the last one like the next one."

And no matter how badly your sensitive side doesn't want that to be true, it is.

I would be lying if I said I didn't scroll all the way to the right to see the full extent of your horror, Blumenkohl. Thanks for the input, guys. I'm thinking y'all are right, I should just let her be. If she's still hurting over all of this, that really sucks, and I wish it weren't the case, but she needs to be able to function without me in her life, and reentering her life would probably be counterproductive in helping her achieve that.

And yeah, it was definitely a very committed relationship. A lot of emotional investment - probably too much for the age we were at. Fortunately, I feel pretty much completely rid of the strong emotions toward her (good and bad) that lingered for a while after I broke up with her. I just hope she can somehow reach a similar level of being-okay-ness before too long.

As for "the next one"...I'm definitely ready for that. :D Just gotta start meeting some girls who seem moderately date-able and who aren't already taken, which is going to be easier at my job immediately post-graduation.

From what it sounds like she's been down about this for a while.

Which makes it obvious you're not really the cause, but she has bigger problems she needs to deal with herself.

I'm slow bbqing some ribs and a couple of beef roast and smoked sausage. I'm be checking on he fire
OH God, Joe is posting again, someone hand me my pills!

"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

In two hours, I'll be running a subject in an experiment on perceptual learning - specifically, one that uses computer-based "perceptual learning modules" to train subjects to visually distinguish between different genera of butteflies simply by giving them feedback as they guess.
