Hello I'm new here. I'm from Finland and I love John Williams' work. Looking forward to having great discussions here!

Yes, no, maybe. People like him a lot (Drax and Hitch are very gay for him), but he gets a short shrift because of his recycling.
Repeat the JWFan pledge after me: 'I hereby recognise John Towner Williams' place in the world as the great composer there has ever been, and I therefore renounce the works of Rozsa, Korngold, Herrmann, Horner, Kamen, Giacchino (unless the prophecy is fulfilled and he becomes the heir to JTW) and Goldsmith, especially Goldsmith. I understand that if I ever refer to Jurassic Park as anything less than "a masterpiece sixty-five million years in the making" I will be resigned to living out my days at the Zimmershrine.'

James Horner was awesome in the 80's and part of the 90's. Now he just rehashes his old stuff over and over again

yes.. the habit of recycling his and other people's music was something I noticed literally immediately when I started exploring his music; i think it was one of the first tracks of the Aliens score, and I had just recently watched 2001: A Space Odyssey which had some music by Aram Khachaturian. sometime later I gave Titanic a listen and even though it is one of my favorite movies, I just can't stand some of the music there.. the third cue in the soundtrack titled "southampton" has one of the most disgusting synths i've heard.. gives me always the goosebumps when i hear it.. so my current opinion about horner's music isn't that good but I haven't consciously heard much of his stuff and i'm still quite new to film music so I'm sure I'll get back to him later.

Basically, that's James Horner:
