I think that's more because everyone looks silly in a Star Trek film.

Except for Neil of course.

I think Plummer was clearly enjoying himself in Klingon garb.
I suggest a full frontal assault with automated laser monkeys, scalpel mines, and acid.

Put Star Trek back on TV and I will be happy.

Star Trek XI was the worst Trek movie to date.

By "Star Trek," do you mean air re-runs or create a new Star Trek TV series? One is a good idea, and the second will never happen.

The endgame for this Trek reboot has to be a tv series.

Of course!

Gerald Fried's ST's > Michael Giacchino's ST

Among all the things I have done in my short and pitiful life, becoming an inside joke on JWFAN is the one I'm the least proud of.

Khan works as a great villain -- nay, the greatest Star Trek villain ever -- because he has a history with Kirk and we already know what it is.

...

In JJ Abrams' universe, Khan is potentially still floating around in space, frozen in the Botany Bay. But he hasn't met Kirk yet, or tried to take over his ship. He hasn't been marooned on a planet with a beautiful wife but left to die when nobody checked in on him. He has no vendetta against Kirk.

...

In JJ Abrams' rebooted universe, Khan is very bad villain material.

I agree with most people that having Khan as the villain in this next one is a dumb idea, and it's stupid that people keep expecting him to be the villian.

That having been said... there's no reason the upcoming film would have to be a re-working Wrath of Khan. Couldn't a more plausible idea be a re-working of Space Seed itself? Kirk & co's first encounter with Khan totally re-imagined. We could see the crew finding the Botany Bay and getting on friendly terms with them, quite naively, and then WHAM! Khan and his gang go all bad-ass on the crew and take over.

I still don't think they'd go the way-too-obvious route of doing Khan for the next film, but still I suppose that Space Seed scenario could be a possibility.

I'd like to see them go with something totally different, and maybe a "space cloud" obstacle instead of more villainous shenanigans. The whole "to explore..." bit hasn't really been properly used since DS9, so instead of cannibalizing Star Wars I'd like to see JJ do something different.

Then again, when you have those screenwriters to work with, you're probably incredibly limited in your scope.
Repeat the JWFan pledge after me: 'I hereby recognise John Towner Williams' place in the world as the great composer there has ever been, and I therefore renounce the works of Rozsa, Korngold, Herrmann, Horner, Kamen, Giacchino (unless the prophecy is fulfilled and he becomes the heir to JTW) and Goldsmith, especially Goldsmith. I understand that if I ever refer to Jurassic Park as anything less than "a masterpiece sixty-five million years in the making" I will be resigned to living out my days at the Zimmershrine.'

Space cloud again? Didn't they exhaust that with TMP?
How can doing that again be interesting?

Don't watch any Star Trek then, because it's success never lied with it's originality.

Well, I used space cloud as a catch-all term for that kind of story, but no, I wouldn't want to literally see another space cloud movie.

The fact is that Star Trek has ALWAYS done good versus evil stories.

And actors make more interesting villains then bits of nebula.

I remember I wrote a few pages describing my "own" Star Trek film after I saw the 11th film.

I involved the search of an artifact through space and finding it in a weird but scientifically accurate solar system. The climax of the film involved the main crew inside the mechanical remains of a city of an lost civilization trying to save their life. Sort of like Indy IV but cooler. The main villain was an alien queen who wanted to be human.

Then I realized I would never write any actual Star Trek film and I ditched the thing as useless.

It depends on the actor or the villain. Unfortunately, most of the movies seem to want to ape Khan, which I guess makes sense given its plaudits. But I'm getting tired of it.

Bana was fine as Nero, but the role was really underwritten.

The point is. Star Trek (2009) was a big action spectacle, and a big hit. They are not going to follow that be a cerebral "thinking man's" sci-fi film. Best we can hope for that this time the script will be good....

I say we should have the Enterprise deciding to go on its own in the middle of aall that and ending the war.

They could also use relativistic bombs! Mountains disintegrating instantly! So many cool things to do in a space opera and we get lasers! :(

I just don't want another "The Enterprise has to save planets from getting destroyed by an alien who wants revenge" storyline.

I also think it would be cool if the second film sets up a much larger storyline that only partially gets resolved at the end, with the adversary not being truly defeated until the third film

So we get one big OS Star Trek story. Like cold war with the Klingons (second movie deals with an isolated incident, which, when resolved reveals a larger Klingon plan?) or something.

Seems like a waste of two films. Let them explore. The only between-installment continuity should lie within the main characters.

Star Trek established years ago that when everyone follows proper rules and regulations, the bad guys win and the good guys lose, or at least stay dead.
I suggest a full frontal assault with automated laser monkeys, scalpel mines, and acid.

QF frickin' T. It's a great concept - in theory, I have no problem with a standalone film spawning a trilogy in which the two sequels tell a single story - but there's significant precedent for it being done really, really poorly. (I'm thinking POTC more than Star Wars here.)
