It seems to be the 11th Commandment: "You shall not have interesting music in comic-based Blockbusters".
You wouldn't see a subtle plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord, singing "Subtle Plans Are Here Again."

That cannot be a commandment. God's commandments were meant to stand forever without revision.

Superman was a comic-based blockbuster with interesting music, as well as its sequels. So was Batman. And Batman Returns. And Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. Many people are fond of the X-Men scores by Kamen and Powell. and Silvestri's Captain America. Even Batman Forever was a box office smash, and had a superb action score.

Somewhere along the way, comic book movie scores lost their way, along with every other genre of film and film score. Batman Begins, The Dark Knight & Rises, Thor, the two Iron Men, the two Hulks, Avengers, etc. Sign of the times.

@Wojo: stop being facetious.

OH God, Joe is posting again, someone hand me my pills!

"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

Sorry Joe, I thought Ang Lee's was going to be as awful as I'd heard, but was pleasantly surprised by how decent it was. And the action sequence in the desert was absolutely fantastic.

While i don't would apply the word 'interesting' to SUPERMAN (it's rousing, alright, but interesting?), you are right up until BATMAN FOREVER/BATMAN & ROBIN. Those were really the last good one, with Elfman's HULK several notches below. The rest: forget it...

From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate. - Christopher Nolan

It is a worthy equal to its sister scores, and its only fault is that the movie was released 19 years after the last one, so the cut and paste job of familiar themes and renditions of the march was obligatory (more than in TOD and LC where only the march was needed - but hey remember basket chase and ark theme ), much like in the visuals they have to mimick some scenes or bring cameos. That's because people want to see that at the cinema and not be alienated (no pun intended...)

(almost?) Every sequel released more than 10 years after the last film does this musically.

And remember 'flight FROM peru' was used for a flight TO peru. So its fitting, specially since it is a map-travel scene.

I wouldn't be surprised if those cut-and-paste moments were rescored alternate bits.

Saw this movie last night at midnight and absolutely loved it. Not being a huge fan of Whedon, I never though his television sensibilities could handle such a big movie with the scale it would have but I was entirely wrong. The action scenes were all very well done and whoever edited the final battle deserves an award just for keeping track of everything going on, let alone making it one of my favorite action sequences in quite some time. The humor that is typical of Whedon was well placed and never felt out of character nor did it ever feel forced. It was also nice to see cameos from a few people that Whedon's worked with in the past.

Basically, it was like the perfect summer blockbuster. Their was really only 5 action sequences, all of them well done and felt like comic book panels coming to life, but without that terrible CGI look that happened so much in Spider-Man 3. Yes its 2.5 hours, but honestly I wish that the extra half hour of scenes cut were left back in as I didn't want the movie to end. And for those seeing it in the U.S., make sure to stay to the very end. The extra scene is definitely worth it.

It was actually a solid fun film. It was very enjoyable and with the exceptions of some poor visual effects, I was entertained and found the film enjoyable. Of course I fear that it might soon become overrated, but it was enjoyable indeed.

Ok, I just watched Iron Man 2. It had me going until Tony Stark created "a new element" in all of three minutes using a giant laser beam to imbue a blue triangle with power.

I have seen dead fish give better performances than Scarlett Johannsen in this film. Fortunately as deadpan as her voice is, it's in an alto that I find sexy. And she's hot as hell. That saves it.

Best part was when all the drones flew by and activated the car alarms.
