You know what was the best-titled Batman movie? Batman.
Batman Returns is awesome too. Hell, even Batman Forever. It's just a cool-sounding title.
Any title with the word rise or a variation of it sounds absolutely douchey, forget the actual content of the films (which you would never want to see anyway). For instance: Rise of the Surfer, Rise of the Apes, Rise of the Machines, Rise of Cobra, Rise of Harry's Wand when Cuddling with Hermione, etc. Now Batman is rising. Fantastic. It's just the title, but what the hell. Good movies generally have good titles.

I don't need to imagine it - I have no doubt it will sound very much like TDK, which sounded very much like Batman Begins. Except now this is post-Inception Zimmer...the Zimmer who supposedly has grown out of his earlier "heroic" work...so maybe we can expect something more minimalistic. Perhaps to one-up his one-note Joker theme, he'll come up with the world's first zero-note theme?

Actually, I'd like to amend my previous statement. It would not be the world's first zero-note theme. The world's first zero-note theme has already been written; it's called 4'33", and I daresay it showcases the kind of melodic verve that Zimmer will, I'm sad to say, never muster.

It's an obvious call on Nolan's part, since his Batman films would not be suitable for 3D. It's ridiculous really that he has to answer such a question - do people automatically expect it from all future blockbusters? If so they expect wrong.

From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate.

The WB has actually been pulling for all of their tentpole films to be shot in 3D or do a post-conversion, the fact that Nolan has refused and getting what he wants shows how much clout he has with them.
Do you like John Williams? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Jaws came out in '75 I really think he came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and an air of consummate professionalism that really gives the pieces a big boost. He's been compared to Jerry Goldsmith but I think John has a far more leitmotif-driven style of composing. In '82 John composed this, E.T., his most accomplished album to date. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "The Magic of Halloween", a theme so catchy most people don't listen to what it means. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of childhood and the importance of friendship, it's also a personal statement about the man himself. Hey Paul!

Unfortunately, the veteran filmmakers are tarting to convert and dabble in the technology. Zemeckis, Cameron, Spielberg, Jackson, Craven, and Scorsese have all jumped in. If it was strictly crappy filmmakers using it as a gimmick, it would die out. This is not the case.

As Cameron's long-delayed epic and first movie since 1997, it got hype. As a computer generated space opera, it got hype. But with 3D, it became the must-see event of the year.

At this point this is just a rumour, but looks like Hugo Strange might be the new villain in TDKR. If that's the case then it's an inspired choice. The last thing I want is what happened to the old movies, where they were just choosing the most obvious villains and then cast a popular actor.

True. I saw Avatar only because of the 3D aspect and the fact that it had photorealistic visuals. The story/characters/stars/etc had absolutely nothing to do with it.
So had Cameron just filmed it normally in a jungle somewhere and enhanced it a bit with CGI, I couldn't have cared less.

No reason to spolier-block this stuff, it was officially confirmed what parts they are playing via an official press release via WB. If there's anybody out there that doesn't want to know what villians/etc will be in the new batman movie, then they should be smart enough to know to just avoid this thread entirely
