I now have more music on my computer than I have room on my iPod. What is the easiest way to manage what goes on my iPod? I thought it was a simple as 'unchecking' the songs in your library. Well that does work fine, but when I go to listen to those unchecked songs iTunes will not continuously play them, it will just stop after each one.

For example, I don't want Djawadi's MOH score on my iPod. So I unchecked each track. That worked, its not on my iPod. But iTunes wont simply play the album unless each track is 'checked.'

It's probably a simply solution and I'm just missing it.

Yeah, you shouldn't have put Djawadi's score on iTunes to begin with. ;)

Seriously though, I'm getting close to filling my 160 GB iPod soon. I've been converting all my files to 192kbps to create room. I'm going to be in the same predicament soon.

When you plug in your iPod and it shows up in iTunes there should be some settings when you actually click on your iPod name. There will be one called "Manually Manage Your Music", CHECK that and then you can decide what you want or don't want on your iPod. It saves one massive headache then having to do a full sync of everything. You can still play those particular tracks in iTunes itself if your iPod/Phone is docked or undocked.

I'm not a technogeek, but I see no reason why there can't be a 200-250GB touch-style iPod. From what I've seen, the 64GB Touch is quite slim. Add more capacity!

I'm sure they will. Gotta role those products slowly to keep the geeks upgrading.

I don't get how syncing is a headache, Bennett. (I'm gonna start calling you guys by your last names )

It only took about a minute whenever I did, but of course it all comes down to how much music you're syncing. Maybe also because you use Apple Lossless? That could make it take longer.

Hoyt, I used to do what you did: autosync and just uncheck the stuff I didn't want. Just recently though I had the same predicament and decided to check my whole library and manually manage. Now you've just got to drag and drop whichever albums/score you want after connecting your iPod. More time consuming, and when you have a lot of new stuff like I sometimes do, it's possible to forget some!

In 50 years Herrmann will be forgotten.

I use the AAC High Quality (128k) conversion for my files since I've only got an 8GB iPhone. Still with almost 2,500 files it takes about 15 minutes to do a full auto sync.

I do have a 64GB iPod Touch but I'm giving that to my girlfriend in June when she gets here. I have no need to a separate player.

BTW I don't mind if you call me by my last name to avoid confusion to the other Trent lmao. I shall call him, "Mini Me".

But when you sync it shouldn't redo everything that's already on the iPod, right? If you've got 9 albums on there, and you import 1 new album and sync, it should only sync that 1 new album.

With auto sync it's asked me more than one time if I want to reformat my iPhone for some stupid reason. I don't remember what was happening that it asked that but since it did I just manually manage my music.

With the auto sync it is just supposed to add/delete files that have changed since your last sync.

Which is a stupid idea. All I want to do is click and drag. Same with voice memos, they're stuck on there unless I click on "sync" again and reformat the bloody thing. Did they stop to think that what's on your computer may be different to what's on your iPhone/Pod? It shouldn't need to be a damn project. For such a popular mainstream product, they sure have one of the most unnecessarily frustrating programs to go with it.

I always thought they did that to prevent songs being transferred from ipods to different computers. Kinda of like a fail safe.

Actually your iPhone comes up in Windows Explorer, my videos and pictures are on the device shown in explorer. It's possible your recordings are too. You should just be able to drag and drop into a new folder in Windows.

Pictures though I import through Photoshop and then save that way.

I don't know specifically about voice memos, but if you're manually managing your device. You can drag-drop, remove whatever it is on the device.

When you sync, it does exactly that. It'll make the device mirror whatever your syncing it with. That's what it's supposed to do. If you delete an album from your iTunes, it'll delete it of your iPod. Makes sense to me.

Yes, for those who want their iPod and iTunes to be mirrors of each other.

My "My Music" folder currently has 217 gigs of unsorted crap, and that's just what's on one partition. Blind syncing would be a very bad idea.

It doesn't make sense if you were just freeing up room on your PC and saved the album to an external HDD or if your computer had to be re-formatted.

I'll probably just go with the 'uncheck' solution for now. If I get rid of my videos and catch up on my podcasts I think I can clear up maybe 10GB on my iPod.

I may end up removing any non-film score related album from itunes, I'll let my wife add my pop, rock, R&B albums to her ipod to free up room.

Hopefully a 200 + GB iPod is coming soon. A TB version would be more preferable. ;)

I don't know why they ditched the 180 that they had. I'm sure the next one will go back up.

160 is the highest they've ever had, and that's also what's currently on the market now

What you're probably thinking of was in 2007, they first introduced the "classic" moniker, and it was available in 80gigs or 160 gigs.

Then in 2008 they dropped both and only sold a 120giger.

Then in 2009 they replaced that with a 160gigger, and that what they sell now.

2010 came and went without any changes to the "classic" line. Will be interesting to see what they do with the line in 2011.

I've had the same iPod since 2006. I got the 80GB video. I'll believe that was the first generation that did video. I'm ready for a upgrade, hopefully that 'classic' line gets updated again.

I had the 120GB Classic but knew it was too much space wise for me. So got the 64GB Touch and gave the Classic to my mom. Then I realized I ever really barely filled my 64GB Touch and once Verizon released the iPhone, I got the 8GB version. I would have gotten the 16GB version but not enough cash for it. However, the 8GB is plenty big enough for me as it is. I've got all the scores I want on there with still room to spare. I'll be giving my 64GB Touch to my girlfriend in June so she'll have an mp3 player of sorts.

This may be a problem if I ever get a new computer or have to re-install Windows. It would automatically force me to delete everything off the iPhone. Plus manual management has another uselessness about it, that if I've save a heap of stuff on the iPhone, I can't click and drag it back onto the computer if it was lost on the PC.

I know I've asked about this a billion times but it continues to be a source of frustration. I just got a new computer and connected my iPhone to it but when I click on "manually manage", it won't let me do anything until it deletes all my music on my phone. I don't have a library to replace my phone's contents with so it'll just be left blank. This crap is simply not acceptable.
