What phone do you have, Koray?

I used to worship the iPhone as well, but after researching and spending time last night playing with multiple phones, I must say that the Android kicks iOS's ass in just about every way.

The iOS is great for in-experienced people who want a phone that's easy to use and will never have to customize or wearing about screwing up with weird downloads. I feel like even my mother could learn how to use an iPhone. But for any power user or just anyone that knows what they are doing, the Android OS is completely superior in every way. It just DOES so much MORE than the iOS even comes close to now. iOS4 is just about a year old and in that year the Android team has added feature after feature that iOS doesn't have, and likely won't in iOS5.

Apple was once king, no question, but Android is the power user's OS now for sure.

Well Apple's big selling point, software wise is that it's easy to use. That is one of the reason the iPod was....is such a hit.

Right. It's super easy to use. It's great for people that want an easy phone.

I would argue that Android is just about as easy to use, though, and that beyond the surface, lies a much, much deeper OS capable of a plethora of things that iOS isn't.

I'm not sure there is anything at the moment that clearly differentiates iOS or Android as better for power users. It's more of a...which type of power user are you?

Mmmmmm iPhone 5 with iPad 2's A5 Dual Core 1.0 GHz? Mmmm mmmm mmmm.

What's exciting about a dual-core 1.0Ghz coming out in September?

There are already 1.2Ghz dual-cores on the market RIGHT NOW. By September there will probably be 1.4Ghz dual-cores

[edit]Shouldn't be posting internal numbers...;)[/edit]

Suffice it to say, the A5 at 1.0 GHz keeps up handily, and even beats certain 2x1.2's and 2x1.5's out there.

And the simple fact is raw clock speed numbers are useless. Half of the Apple A5 chip is voodoo magic that is designed and dedicated to do what Apple knows the iPad needs to do, to keep performance up across the board.

You can't just throw a really big engine into a car and expect it to beat a well designed car from beginning to end.

Probably a misconception because Apple rarely touts spec numbers outside of the real basics.

But they outspend every other company out there in terms of performance because they have the sheer volume to be able to afford parts that are bigger/better/faster than the rest. (See the iPhone 4 display).

Flash? What's that?

The S2 was originally specced at 1.0 GHz, but apparently their fabs haven't been able to keep up...so they're also pumping out different (faster) 1.2 Ghz ones. So there's going to be a small mix out there. It's confusing.

No idea which one the U.S. will get. And AT&T and T-Mobile are currently even more confusing...since AT&T has bid on T-Mobile.

Yea I was just reading that there are some 1.0Ghz S II's out there. All the specs I've read on the US version are that it'll be 1.2Ghz.

I also read that the S II cleared FCC regs, via AT&T, so I guess that means they are definitely getting it? Though, I suppose T-Mobile could always get it as well.

Yea I recently read that the feds could put a stop to the AT&T purchase of T-Mobile which is dumb if you ask me. Let AT&T buy T-Mobile, let Verizon buy Sprint, and then we'll only have 2 major companies to decide between instead of 4

HTC Incredible piece of shit

I've always been pro-simplicity. Sounds like the iPhone does a lot of things I wish my phone did, such as self-organizing. I'm not a fan of having to move around my apps all the time whenever I run out of room or want to reorganize, the process is very tedious and annoying. I also don't care about blinking lights, etc. It would also mean one less item to carry with me - my iPod.

In 50 years Herrmann will be forgotten.

Huh that's funny, I was just having a conversation this afternoon with a friend of mine who has a HTC Incredible, and he was telling me how much he loves it. He really likes the HTC skin on it.

As for finding your apps, doesn't the HTC skin offer an alphabetical listing of them? I think there is a way to search for your apps too, though I might be thinking of the Touchwiz skin.

Also, there's no difference between Android and iOS when it comes to organizing your apps on the screens (other than the alphabetical view I believe HTC has that I mentioned). Either way you have to drag icons all over the place to set up your screens the way you want. It's actually a huge pain in the ass on my iPhone.

There's no way to organize other than manually, that I'm aware of. I do them all alphabetically anyway, so something like that would be great.

I organize apps in iTunes if I want to do any serious reorganizing. Otherwise the standard method works well in a pinch. But it's one of those things

I personally think a playlist type system for apps would be superior to folders (a relic of desktops). Apps categorize based on genre, developer, name, most used, most recent. And then you can check a bunch, move em into a folder (playlist).

That'd be good. That's similar to how I do it now. Each page of my HTC Sense is a different section of apps. One page is for games, another for general apps, one for most used, and then one for technical stuff like calculator, flashlight, camera, gallery, etc.

I will agree that was one things I miss about the Droid Eris was the ability to put icons and such where ever you wanted to on the screen and that you had four screens to do so. Plus with the weather app and clock right smack there on the home screen when you go to unlock it. That's one thing I definitely do miss when compared to the iPhone.

Sometimes when I go to my text messages, the names will take a couple seconds to load and there will be just numbers. But it always fixes itself. Yesterday I noticed that a few conversations were just numbers and the names never loaded. Now today 90% of names didn't load, and I went to my contacts to discover all of them had been deleted somehow.

I fucking hate this phone.

I think my HTC Droid Eris did the same thing when I had it. If the trade program is still going on, you could see how much you will get out of your HTC Droid Incredible then pay the difference for the iPhone. I know my friend Joe was quoted $150 for his Droid Incredible.

Well, Apple announced iOS5 today, which will work on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, and will ship with the iPhone 5 coming out this fall (it also will run in iPad, iPad 2, and the 3rd and 4th gen iPod Touches)

http://www.phonearen...release_id19358

Honestly a lot of the new features are very very nice - of course they are all features Android and other OSes have already been doing, for the most part :) But I'm sure Apple's versions will run very smooth

Still gonna stick with the Galaxy S II, I think. It's getting annoying waiting for them to announce a US release date though!

Playing with the beta of iOS 5 as we speak.

So far I've been playing with phrases. You can load up the dictionary with things like brb and the keyboard will automatically replace brb with "be right back." Pretty nifty for anal people like myself who like to type things out and still be efficient!

*edit*
Haha, Jason, Apple has heard you. You can set the iPhone flash to go off on receiving calls/emails/texts/alerts.

Cool information to know guys. I'll definitely update my iPhone hardware once the iOS5 is available for update.

Edit: I'm not sure about Blume but I for one do use my phone as my every day phone. I don't have a land line, no need to have one.

Another nifty feature, you can set vibration patterns for alerts. Just tap out a pattern, and voila.

I agree that is a pretty cool feature.

Hey Blume if you turn the text sounds off while listening to the iPod portion of the iPhone, will the phone vibrate? I ask this because currently when ever I turn the text sounds off while I listen to the iPod portion of my phone it doesn't vibrate any time I get a text, despite the fact I have vibration turned on.

I turn the text sound off because every time I got a text it would cut the sound from my music out for a brief moment.

I really hope they fixed that with iOS5.

Grrr, I hate it.

Also, have they addressed the still very fiddly copy/paste of text? The way its often 'sucks up' entire blocks of text is bloody annoying.

I turned off the auto-correct.

I do agree about the copy/paste of text. I too find it really annoying how it can "suck up" entire blocks of text as you stated. It's hard to highlight just a single word most of the time.
