So cool! :)

Karol
From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate. - Christopher Nolan

Nice. Is the score being recorded at Newman Scoring Stage or Sony?

... I can't imagine Eastwood being used, unless the music budget was slashed significantly.

Check out the trailer for Mission: Impossible 4. Looks pretty good

I can't stand the M:I movies. Compared to the original TV-series, these are so stupid and ridiculous. Complete waste of time.

I'm guessing that I only heard, at most, 20 minutes of the score so I don't know if I could really say if I thought this one is better or not (it sounded great!).

Why not?

People judge 90 minute scores based on only a handful of 30 second samples, you know.

So why are you playing the moralist here?

Meh. I'm sure the action scenes will be good but the plot doesn't seem compelling.

And for the first time, Tom Cruise actually looks OLD.

Too much videogame style to my taste. Not interested. It can't be better than MI:2 anyway.

Have you guys seen this? Giacchino posted it on his Tweeter:

http://www.twitvid.com/FSW7Y

"It's still baffling to me. I sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper and do my best... The remarkable thing is that my music is heard by billions of people." --John Williams

"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

Mission Impossible 4 (Brad Bird) trailer looks good. From the sight of it, it seems they Bourned it up a bit. OTOH, now everything is Bourne: Bourne, Bond, Mission Impossible ...

Yeah, but I'm an average moviegoer.

You are no average moviegoer. You're different. You generally don't like what the masses like, and MI4 is precisely a film for the masses. You like films that offer something different. That's why I find it weird. But maybe I'm totally wrong about you. What the fuck do I know?

On the whole, I consider myself a fan of the better Hollywood film. My DVD collection consist mostly of 'classic' American films. I'm also a fan of the first Bourne film (second one was good, third one just okay) and I feel a Bourne vibe coming off the trailer of MI4. The trailer and the fact that it's directed by Brad Bird makes me think it could be a good better than average action movie. I like the first film of Mission Impossible too, BTW. The new film looks better than MI2 or MI3.

You are sure you didn;t mean MI:3 there? I can't see why MI:2 would be abominable, there is a good tension build-up, a pretty good story, a good balance in the action sequences and wonderful cinematography. Even the score is ok.

M:I-2 is pretty terrible, but the last half an hour is awesome for sheer ridiculousity. M:I-3 is also bad, but it has a good action scene where it isn't just The Cruiser.
Repeat the JWFan pledge after me: 'I hereby recognise John Towner Williams' place in the world as the great composer there has ever been, and I therefore renounce the works of Rozsa, Korngold, Herrmann, Horner, Kamen, Giacchino (unless the prophecy is fulfilled and he becomes the heir to JTW) and Goldsmith, especially Goldsmith. I understand that if I ever refer to Jurassic Park as anything less than "a masterpiece sixty-five million years in the making" I will be resigned to living out my days at the Zimmershrine.'

Since the OST is supposedly supposed to come out in 8 days and the official Varese site still has no artwork or track list, I'm assuming it's going to be delayed. This is the same pattern that Super 8 and both seasons of Fringe went through.

It's the same pattern that every release through Varese goes through these days. I'd preferably like to listen to a film's respective score when the film is in theaters, not a month later after I've moved on to something else.

But hey, without them most current scores wouldn't see the light of day, so I can't complain.

In 50 years Herrmann will be forgotten.
