Which again has to do with the fact that his fans are much more interested of his action/adventure scores and obsessively want every note from them and not the "dull" drama scores that can have hours of music missing on the album and no one cares.

Actually no. It has more to do with the fact that dramas need much much less music than sf/fantasy/action movies. At least the ones JW scores do.

Plus he really compiles good albums for his drama scores. ;)

That yes. :)

Nice. Creative use of commas, I see :)
"It's still baffling to me. I sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper and do my best... The remarkable thing is that my music is heard by billions of people." --John Williams

"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

Wouldn't be surprised if the commas aren't there on the actual final CD

Williams continues to use " and " to either combine two different cues into one track, or to refer to two different things that happen in one cue. You never know!

I wonder if the OST is chronological? Actually you know what - I don't wanna know. I wanna go to the theater and see the movie, THEN analyze the heck out of the score and CD :)

Yeah it will be nice to actually see a film where the music is worth listening to and analysing. :)

Ars superior est vita hominum.

"We pop out and come into the world and music is there. We didn't invent it - it's all organised in the atmosphere by divinity or whatever. It's a miracle." - John Williams-

I think music is a stream of some kind. It could be blood. It could be water. It could be ether. Whatever it is it seems to be a living, organic force that’s in motion, that serves humanity and is part of humanity and part of what describes us as humans. We sing, play, dance, all the things that we do. And there is a vibrant and great literature we have been given. ... As musicians, we join the stream. We swim in the stream with all the other millions of music makers. It’s a life force, a strong one, surrounding us and we are part of it. -John Williams-

Yea. With Tintin I am enjoying analyzing everything now, and will watch the movie at home in October to continue to do so. (Obviously I'll see it again in theaters when it finally comes out here 2 months later).

But with War Horse, I don't want to do any of that. I want Spielberg and Williams to take me on a journey in the theater, and for that to be my first experience with everything. I might not even listen to the OST before I see the movie.

With Tintin, I want the OST NOW!!!!!!! ;)

These tracks seem to be telling the story chronologically and I haven't read the book.

The fifth track maybe is the scene in the trailer where the horse reaches the car with the the red haired girl.

For some reason I feel the same way about this film and score. I want to experience this film as a journey, although I will probably give into the temptation and listen to the OST before seeing the film since it looks to be a good listening experience. :)

I might catch War Whores on TV in a year or 2.

Other way round for me. I don't wanna listen to the tintin OST, and will go see it on opening day, october 26th. With war horse, the ost will have come out 3 weeks before the film opens over here, so I won't be able to wait.

Yeah and the track times seem generous. We are not even in the war part of War Horse and we have already about 25 minutes of music there just for horse rearing and farm work. If the running time goes above 65 minutes KM is going to have a hissy fit! ;)

Hey that's a good point. So, far, out of 6 tracks, the average track length is 4:12. If the remaining 10 tracks have the same average, that's another 42:07, bringing the total to 67:24

Far and Away, SpaceCamp, Nixon, Born on the Fourth of July, Poseidon Adventure, Heartbeeps, The Fury, The Cowboys, Always, AI Artificial Intelligence. . . .plus a bunch of his 60s scores.

The thing is, even though he usually includes them, when he does they're almost always within the first few tracks of the OST.

I would consider End Credits the thematic suite in most of those above scores. Plus some older movies didn't really have but a 1 minute credit sequence since the main credits were at the beginning. Even Theme from Angela's Ashes is an end credits suite. But yeah he didn't write those individual concert arrangements for every score.

Here is to hoping JW will create a thematic suite for the End Credits with new development of the material!

Well, it's Sony Classical, so I wouldn't count on it. ;)

This is a War Movie, but we might actually have a lot more music in the movie than in the other war movies JW scored so far. The focus here is obviously not on the war...

By the way, do we know whether the bit that we hear in the trailer is the main theme? Or is it just any random cue?

FilmComposer told me it is probably the main theme since it appears a lot in the score, more than any other theme.
