LOL when I saw the title of this thread, I too thought it was asking if there's a lot of geeks in here.

I am a big fan of Exeter City FC, a football team from Devon in England (there you go, a War Horse reference already). Our nickname - given to the team as well as its fans - is The Grecians, one of the strangest nicknames of any team in the country; indeed, nobody is entirely sure how the nickname came about. The most popular theory is that the residents of the area of the city where the football club is located used to be known as 'Grecians' because for centuries they lived outside the city walls and would play the part of the Greeks in a yearly re-enactment of the siege of Troy. Even the team's mascot is called Grecian the Lion, while previous mascots were Alex the Greek and Athena the Grecian Goddess. One of the Greek islands now has quite a few fans who follow the fortunes of Exeter City from afar and occasionally attend matches.
Here is a photograph I took at our cup game against Liverpool earlier this season; note the Greek flag to the right of the old grandstand.
