And I do think you're awefully negative/ critical lol
Of all things, i never expected BANNING BACK HOME to trigger that reaction. But i had it coming after ill-speaking about compulsive hoarders of INDIANA JONES memorabilia.
On the bright side, i just discovered John Barry's THE LAST VALLEY and enjoy the heck out of it!

Criticizing Ultimate War?!? Why don't we start bitching about Desert Chase and Adventures on Earth while we're at it. Sigh.
I think the contiguous 30 minute chunk of music starting with "Tink Grows Up" and ending with the end of the end credits is the pinnacle of John Williams scoring career. So there!

at least those are great pieces of music from great films.Criticizing Ultimate War?!? Why don't we start bitching about Desert Chase and Adventures on Earth while we're at it. Sigh.
"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

It's sad when a lousy movie taints a great score in some people's eyes. It's wonderful, however, when these people won't buy that score, leaving one more for someone who will appreciate it.
I wouldn't count on that. The SOLD OUT button looms large on HOOK, even now.

I dont think 5,000 copies will even last 24 hours
I'll be surprised if it's not sold out within a week. All though it took a month or so for Star Trek V to sell out but Hook is a bit more popular than Star Trek V.

Why don't they put limit to 1 per customer for the first week or so

The problem is that probably 40% of the copies sold will be to people hoarding extra copies to re-sell for double, triple, quadruple the retail price. And it will work.
Good point. Unless if it's retailers IE: SAE, MovieMusic, Intrada and such then they should limit the number of copies for people to buy.

They'd get immediate returns on their investment by re-licensing 1941, Commando, Poseidon Adventure, Star Trek 5, DIe Hard, soon Hook, etc.
Just not part of their ideology I guess

Besides, if you buy your maximum 1 album at LLR, your max 1 at BSX, your max 1 at SAE, and your max 1 at MovieMusic -- for a grand total of four albums -- how has limiting your purchase stopped the speculators? It only made them work a bit harder, and their end result of a high markup is still just as rewarding.
And don't tell me that LLR, BSX, SAE, MM, Intrada, and VS are going to team together to verify email addresses, shipping addresses, and/or credit cards to make sure that people don't do what I just described.

"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

But that was because customers knew it would be virtually unlimited. If there was a fear that it would sell out soon, then it would've sold the first 5000 a lot faster. It will sell out quickly for sure, but even if limited at 5,000 copies I don't think it will be burned out in less than 24 hrs. Intrada's Back to the Future - which was even more sought-after than Hook - sold the first batch of copies in a couple of days if I remember well.
1. Nightwatch/Killer By Night - Johnny Williams and Quincy Jones 2. Diamond Head/Gone with the Wave - Johnny Williams/Lalo Schifrin 3. Mass - Leonard Bernstein 4. Bernstein with the New York Philharmonic - Leonard Bernstein

Yeah and I still think this is very stupid. It's sad when a lousy movie taints a great score in some people's eyes.
As for me, I love both the movie and the score! This is some of the earliest Williams and Spielberg I ever remember being exposed to. My mother took my brother and I to see it. It was a perfect kind of fantasy adventure movie for kids. I still remember the end sword fight with the big fanfare in the score, and the crocodile falling on Hook. So awesome.
It's some of JW's most important unreleased material, of not the most important.
The bootlegs generally sounded terrible (there are a couple okay-sounding tracks you can keep in your rotation). I have spent the years listening to the unreleased music through the DVD. Even amid the sound effects and dialogue, the score really shines.

And yeah BSX is perhaps the last resort from Jason's list. Others are reliable, get their copies moving relatively fast after ordering and have the score on sale on their site pretty much immediately after they come on sale at LLL.
Ars superior est vita hominum.
"We pop out and come into the world and music is there. We didn't invent it - it's all organised in the atmosphere by divinity or whatever. It's a miracle." - John Williams-
I think music is a stream of some kind. It could be blood. It could be water. It could be ether. Whatever it is it seems to be a living, organic force that’s in motion, that serves humanity and is part of humanity and part of what describes us as humans. We sing, play, dance, all the things that we do. And there is a vibrant and great literature we have been given. ... As musicians, we join the stream. We swim in the stream with all the other millions of music makers. It’s a life force, a strong one, surrounding us and we are part of it. -John Williams-

The thing that surprises me is that LLL doesn't do what Intrada does and re-press titles that sell out quickly.

Schindler's Workforce also sounds surprisingly similar to the piece used in the original trailer...
Woijiech Kilar's Exodus.
I usually prefer his one-character pose sheets to his gang of floating heads.
The decision on composition is taken by the studios, don't blame him.

And my verdict?
The movie is really atrociously and unspeakably bad, especially the "Ultimate War" part... unless, I guess, you are a kid between the ages of 3 and 10. I don't even wanna start talking about the choreography of that part of the movie (what choreograohy?). It's really hard to believe that the director is the same guy who directed Schindler's List 3 years later.
That said, the score was magnificent! Undoubtedly the best thing about the movie. I didn't find many "unreleased highlights" though, except the "Ultimate War" part. I guess most of the good stuff is already on the OS album. Still, it will be nice to have all the variations of the themes and every cue written for the film.
I dont think 5,000 copies will even last 24 hours
Will it be limited to 5,000 copies???
