Everyone please pick an avatar!
If the system gives you trouble when you are selecting your pick, try these things:
1. Make sure its a GIF or JPG, not a PNG or other format
2. Try shrinking it down yourself to no more than 150pixels wide before uploading
Thanks!

I shunned this board for several years due, in part, to the 'busy' graphics. I prefer things neat and lean and simple, where the TALK is in focus, not the design.
As far as I can tell this site basically only has avatars and a signature here and there. (I don't like signatures much so I don't use them). A forum with more overblown graphics starts becoming unreadable.

But I've become a bit accustomed to it after my return. I still hope people don't go overboard with flashy signatures and moving gifs for avatars etc. Otherwise, the board will end up like this eventually:

You're overreacting. This board has never been visually "busy", and the odd gif ain't gonna change that.

Is still works for me!
Hmm, that's really tiny.
Classicnothing wrong with a handful.

It's not pretty, no, and it has several shortcomings. Still, I prefer the lean style of it....allowing for more focus on the discussions and less of 'everything else' (I've disabled the avatar function there). Then again, there aren't many interesting discussions either, so what can you do?
My preferred board is that over at maintitles.net, even though I sometimes wish you could embed pictures in it (maybe even youtube videos, although I feel many threads get a little too youtube-heavy, making them heavy to load).
Simplicity, but user-friendless is the key to happiness!

the maintitles board is definitely better than FSM's, although I think it's a bit too narrow, sterile and... boring.
are there any other JWfanners posting over there?
I'm not sure. I think fommes may be dropping by now and then.
It's my primary film music 'home' on the interwebz, by far the friendliest and with best atmosphere. FSM has become too big for its own good in the last 5-6 years.

I thought this thread was going to be about some announcement for a sequel to Avatar or so

Whoever designed that page should be shot, drawn and quartered.
Although the first person to start music playing loudly when launching a page deserves worse than that.

The thing I hate most about FSM is that when people quote messages, the quote syntax does not include the name of the person who made the original comment. So you get this very long and picture-heavy original post, only to see it repeated on the very next post, completely italicized, just to add a "LOL" as if nobody would know what you're laughing at. Then when it's quoted again, the demarcation between original and first repeat is lost, turning the history of the conversation into muddled soup.

I see Thor still thinks it's 1994 and is looking for the JWFan BBS on Promenade or the JWFan IRC, which would be totally devoid of any and all images, graphics, and sign of human life.
Absolutely. I'd love that!

I agree. That's annoying.

The is THE most annoying aspect of the FSM boards. The second-most annoying aspect is the lack of little icons you can click to being you to the first unread post in a thread.
Nah, the worst part of the FSM board is the sucky post options, like the lack of italics and bolding for example.
John Williams sucks, he doesn't write with a quill pen, there is no emotion in pencil music ! Purcell is the man !Among all the things I have done in my short and pitiful life, becoming an inside joke on JWFAN is the one I'm the least proud of.

Human aggression is instinctual. Humans have not evolved any ritualised aggression-inhibiting mechanisms to ensure the survival of the species. For this reason man is considered a very dangerous animal.

Go to your profile, click on the picture of your "gray man" and change the photo! As simple as that!
Sorry, dude, you lost me after "profile"!
I will try, though. Damn you sir: I will try!
