I admit, not the most elegant cover design but as long as the music is good I don't mind.

I decided to buy it after seeing the list of the people involved.
As for the artwork. You know, STV is not the most handsomely looking release. And it's probably still the best Trek expansion so far regardless.

From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. It’s very simple. There’s a trust in simple storytelling and simple image making that actually takes massive confidence to try and emulate.

From his description of the alternate main title I am guessing it is the "film version" , and the version Jerry used for his OST is retained as track 1.
I would guess that means The Dish, 39.1 Degrees Celsius and Retreat will be the OST versions to then.

Hats off to them. The artwork might look like something you'd slap together using MS Paint on Windows 3.1 but the complete score along with 16 pages of notes and further notes provided free as a download is pretty great. Especially if this is their first expansion. Bodes well for possible future releases from them.

So what's the story with Joel Goldsmith's contributions? It would appear that he composed a significant chunk of this score and many of the coolest parts. Why not a more prominent credit?

There wasn't that much time to score the film and he needed help. So hence why he brought his son in to help him.

I never meant that it was complete invisible who did what when you listen to the score. Just that while Joel Goldsmith writes as he writes he lovingly keeps his father's style and musical ideas in mind.

Hardly anything in FIRST CONTACT is indicative of Goldsmith's career highlights. Jerry, that is.
You wouldn't see a subtle plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord, singing "Subtle Plans Are Here Again."

Good Goldsmith means at least uber-competent craftmanship, but the later STAR TREKS tend to be a bit workmanlike. Ironically, the much-maligned NEMESIS is the most impessive from pure compositional standpoint (though its slight thematic content make it a bit hard to love).

I'm a big fan of the triumphant presentation of the Enterprise theme in "Flight of the Phoenix." That's a highlight of the score, regardless of who wrote it.

I didn't see the last page where the covers and such were posted. Good god they do look ugly, especially the way how the image on the disc was done. I could have done a better job than whoever did this artwork.
Either way I was told yesterday from GNP that mine went out probably with anyone else who ordered it. I chose the $5 shipping option but hopefully I'll have it by this weekend or first of next week.

The First Contact main theme is one of my most favorite themes of ALL TIME. All this Joel Goldsmith info is news to me. I feel like I've been sucked into some Goldsmith trickery.

It just shows my ignorance with Star Trek. I've only seen the film once and haven't looked at my CD in too long. But of course, you're right...the info is all there. I've been under a rock apparently.
