It just came to me that I have the hardest time deciding which score/movie out of these I like the most... Well? What do you think?

Film: Superman. It just has too much charm that none of the two Spielberg movies can match.

From a storytelling point of view, from a directing point of view, there is one thing I associate with what he does, which is calm. There is such an inherent calm and inherent trust of the one powerful image, that he makes me embarrassed with my own work, in terms of how many different shots, how many different sound effects, how many different things we’ll throw at an audience to make an impression. But with Kubrick, there is such a great trust of the one correct image to calmly explain something to audience. There can be some slowness to the editing. There’s nothing frenetic about it. Both votes for Close Encounters.

I wish I could say it's close. But it isn't. It's miles ahead of Superman. And Hook finishes last.

Movie: Close Encounters
Do you like John Williams? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Jaws came out in '75 I really think he came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and an air of consummate professionalism that really gives the pieces a big boost. He's been compared to Jerry Goldsmith but I think John has a far more leitmotif-driven style of composing. In '82 John composed this, E.T., his most accomplished album to date. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "The Magic of Halloween", a theme so catchy most people don't listen to what it means. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of childhood and the importance of friendship, it's also a personal statement about the man himself. Hey Paul!

Superman and Close Encounters are perfection, John Williams at his greatest. But I voted for Hook because it has a childlike innocence and magic that really connects to me more than the other two scores. But it's a little like picking a favorite child....you love them all....well, except for Jimmy.....get back in the closet, Jimmy!!!! Ahem...where was I.....right. Hook is magical.

For film.....I want to watch them all back to back to decide, but Superman may be the one.

I don't know...this is a real tough poll.. Close Encounters is a great score, but it doesn't really come to the quality of Hook and Superman for me. And if I had to choose, I guess I'd put Superman on top, followed by Hook and then CE3K. All of them being great scores. Superman is just up the extra mile of JW awesomeness.

As for the films, CE3K is easily miles ahead of the other two...

Superman on both. If this were "best" I'd pick CE3K over Superman for movie. Hook is last in both categories.

Hook score is nice, but not THIS nice. Both Superman and CEOTTK are legends (films and scores)!
