Trent B 354 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Jason I wasn't sure where to put this so if you want to combine this with another thread, feel free to.Not sure if anyone has seen this thread on FSM.http://filmscoremont...mID=1&archive=0Basically this is what Giacchino-Fan stated...I asked Mr. McCarthy himself about the expansion. He said:"they're putting the expanded version together now; probably in a month or two".If he means that it'll be ready and for sale in just a month or two from now, well, paint me red and shove a carrot up my nose; I'm excited! If this is true then I to am excited! Generations is an under-rated gem like Star Trek IV. The OST is good on it's own but A LOT of great music was left off. These are the cues that come to mind that I would love to hear outside of the film...Distress Call (From Enterprise-B portion)78 Years LaterArrival At AmergosaDestruction Of Amergosa"That's Where He's Going" (When Data and Picard figure out where Soran is heading)Prisoner Exchange (Film version opening)Evacuation (when everyone is being evacuated to the saucer section)The insert between "Out Of Control" and "The Crash".Destruction Of The Veridian StarReplay (The music right after "Two Captain's", when Picard and Kirk leave the Nexus together)I would imagine GNP being the one to release this as they did with First Contact.
OneBuckFilms 517 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Between this, the reissue of Star Trek V by Intrada, and what looks like Star Trek TMP from LLLR, this is already turning into a delightfully expensive year for Star Trek music fans. I might have to give Generations a spin real soon. Haven't played it in quite a while.

Agreed. Star Trek TMP is definitely certain and it's coming June 5th per their post on Facebook.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Was there any doubt, after all the talk about "all the scores" getting the restoration treatment, that we'd be getting it sooner rather than later?
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Maybe Varese could do a Nemesis re-release?Karol
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Not really, marian but it's nice to see it confirmed
Trent B 354 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Maybe Varese could do a Nemesis re-release?KarolI'm not holding my breath.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I have no interest in this, one of the bottom dwellers among Star Trek movie scores, though it rates higher than Giacchino's mediocrity.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I'm sure you also rate it higher then Hook and TLC, so that shows how much you know.
Trent B 354 Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 I have no interest in this, one of the bottom dwellers among Star Trek movie scores, though it rates higher than Giacchino's mediocrity. You say the same thing about Attack Of The Clones. Even though you've probably never heard anyone's expanded edit with the new material from The Old Republic.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 The OST of AOTC is long enough to form a valid opinion. And Joe has seen the film.
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I think it's quite a good CD. Not amazing, inspiring or life changing, but really enjoyable.Karol
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 it's a perfectly okay score, nothing great. it works within the film but it really doesn't do anything for me outside it.And Vosk, sorry nothing in anyone's expanded edit would ever convince me AOTC is a good score. It's probably a better score than the movie itself but that isn't praise either.Stefan I don't think Generations is better than TLC, but I would rather listen to Generations than Hook. I really don't want to listen to Hook.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Generations is better then Hook.
Xander Harris 9,674 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I don't know about that. What I do know is that they're both from a kick ass era in my childhood.
Trent B 354 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Generations is better then Hook.I have to agree with that.Vosk, sorry nothing in anyone's expanded edit would ever convince me AOTC is a good score. It's probably a better score than the movie itself but that isn't praise either.Typical statement from you. Also my real name is Trent, please start calling me that instead of "Vosk".
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Was'nt the Name Vosk from AOTC? or was it from ROTS?
Trent B 354 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Was'nt the Name Vosk from AOTC? or was it from ROTS?Neither...it was actually a villain from Star Trek Enterprise.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Generations is better then Hook.I have to agree with that.Vosk, sorry nothing in anyone's expanded edit would ever convince me AOTC is a good score. Also my real name is Trent, please start calling me that instead of "Vosk".you'll always be Vosk to me. I can't help that you worship a score like AOTC, The best praise I can give it is it's the the 6th best "Star Wars score. But consider that Revenge of the Sith is also a poor score except for the massive amount music from Star Wars being 6th isn't high praise.
ManofDestiny 104 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I don't care how good or bad it is. I just want to have another Trek expanded score.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 AOTCis better than ESB.Wrong. agreed.I would love an official Star trek the Motion Picture 3 or 4 cd set.
Jay 46,242 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Jason I wasn't sure where to put this so if you want to combine this with another thread, feel free to.You put it in the exact right place, and thanks so much for including a link to the FSM thread
shockwave 8 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Maybe Varese could do a Nemesis re-release?KarolI'm not holding my breath.Nov 2012 would be the 10th anniv of Nemesis. It would make sense for Varese to release a dx ed. But yeah I know.Just thinking outload......
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 AOTCis better than ESB.Wrong.Good thing I was joking.
Trent B 354 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Hard to tell these days when someone doesn't use emoticons.
MrJosh 1,205 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I've always loved the theme in Generations. This one is more an exciting release to me that ST: IV or VI.
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Never heard this score. Not a single note. But I will probably buy it anyway, for completeness' sake.Karol
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 It's a good score. Kinda reminds me a bit of Rosenman, actually.
Trent B 354 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 It's a good score. Kinda reminds me a bit of Rosenman, actually.Never really thought of it that way. Interesting perspective.
OneBuckFilms 517 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I listened to it this morning on my commute (driving, I like to pick a CD when I drive to and from work). This score is actually a lot better than many paint it.I'm enjoying it quite a lot, and I'm also remembering some of the cues not on the CD from the film, such as the start of the Amargosa star collapsing (great ostinato in the strings as the tension builds here), and the Enterprise's narrow escape from the Amargosa Observatory, along with the Duras Sisters' appearance. The fact that the score is in the same sonic spere as the TNG series is apt, as the movie is basically translating TNG to a larger canvas.
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 It's a good score. Kinda reminds me a bit of Rosenman, actually.Never really thought of it that way. Interesting perspective.Like Rosenman's? How?Karol
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Hard to say. And it's been a while since I last listened to it. It's certainly not "like" Rosenman's music for the most part, and not on the same level. But there's something in how the action music builds that always seemed to have a Rosenmanish vibe to me.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I find that remark...insulting.Rosenman's orchestrations are far inferior to McCarthy's, who's a master.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Who cares? They are still two of the three most inferior scores to appear in the Star Trek film franchise.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 That's your typical response to any opinion that displeases you. Try harder.
Trent B 354 Posted May 12, 2012 Author Posted May 12, 2012 Rosenman's orchestrations are far inferior to McCarthy's, who's a master.Rosenman's orchestrations for IV obviously payed homage to the TOS music, so it film more. McCarthy's orchestrations are better though and were perfect for Generations. Rosenman never scored any of the Trek episodes TNG-Voyager where McCarthy did score quite a bit of them, especially for in The Next Generation.
Xander Harris 9,674 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 No, but I would expect it to come out either by the end of this year or next.
