No pansy-assery. You pick one set, not a list of ten.

I don't particularly care much for 2001: A Space Odyssey but I do recognize its great visual effects, artistic design and production values.

And this by far is my favorite movie set:

The ones from the ALIEN films. And BLADE RUNNER. And JURASSIC PARK.

I can't come up with a single one because I'm distracted by blume's signature.

how.... dare... you.....

Sorry Indy, I skipped over your post because reading a list felt like a lot of effort at the time.

great choice Lee!

Indeed! Orca is one brilliant set.

What they said.

And no, I won't name a film set. You can't start a topic with that signature and not expect repercussions...

It's just ... a boat.

It's only a boat if you look at it from the water.

Minas Tirith is probably my favourite. Followed by Edoras and Hobbiton.

Certainty some of the most sumptuously detailed sets ever built.

Posted

 indeed. I was gonna pick hobbiton.

It's a shame that they took out all the colour from the doors and porches after the film was completed and Hobbiton became a tourist attraction. It would have been nice if they left it as it was. But at least its back in shape for the film ;)

What can i say, i agree with KK who already posted Hobbiton. This and Bag-End just rules everything else!

(By the way, For the Hobbit films Hobbiton was redone as a permanent attraction (in film decoration) for years to come)

Other favorites:

- Circus Train from Last Crusade,

- Streets and appartement from Bladerunner,

- The public appartement complex and Anderton's flat from Minority Report (i love sci fi noir)

- The chariot race arena from Ben Hur

- Last but not least the Mos Eisley Cantina from Starwars

Blume made it apparent he wants to see how well we can either follow directions or otherwise count to one, so I will play along.

The treehouse in Disney's classic The Swiss Family Robinson.

Hey, technically I did only list one to answer the question. I said Minas Tirith was my favourite. I just posted pics of all the other epic sets of Middle-Earth along with it.

Of course, because you knew that I was special, right?

Posted

I forgot the LOTR sets (both location and stage). Add those to my list.

my first thought, my 2nd thought was the fortress of solitude.

I wish there was more behind the scenes footage of this, to know what was actually built, and what was matte. amazing stuff.

Wow. Great question, not sure how I can pick one right now. Some great sets have been posted so far.

The Hill Valley court house!

Posted

Isn't that just a backdrop to a much bigger set? Which is indeed terrifically iconic.

Posted

The ones from the ALIEN films. And BLADE RUNNER. And JURASSIC PARK.

These, minus Jurassic Park, of course. ;)

The T-Rex paddock - night time is pretty damn brilliant, actually.

That's one of the coolest sets ever. That and free fall is much more interesting to look at than some sort of boring unexplained artificial gravity. And a ship seen that way looks much more like it can exist.

To me it's almost hilarious how some films that try to do things look spectacular, and invent complicated designs, and then some random video from the ISS looks way better anyway. People expect ships at sea or tanks or trains or cars or planes to look like the real thing. But suddenly when it's about spaceships they're fed with something else.

That thing is incredible. Can you believe they just tore this stuff down after the movies?

This + the '89 Batmobile = pure sex.

Ooooh, I change all my answers to the one Quint just posted.

I think my favorite part of the carbon freeze chamber is that tunnel underneath that Luke takes to the window room. I'd like that as the tunnel into my laundry room downstairs.

I prefer the more colorful bridge from the TV series.
