Take it as you will, but Leonard Maltin gave T4 *** stars. You guys are speaking about the film as being as bad as Friday The 13th Part 2 or something. It's not.

it was one of the most unnecessary films I've ever watched. and 3 stars is generous. I'd give it 1 star. another Christian Bale failure.
OH God, Joe is posting again, someone hand me my pills!

"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

Look out his book - the "Movie And Video Guide" (or whatever it's called this year) - it's essential for anyone remotely interested in movies.

"Terminator 3" was a curiousity - something that doesn't feel (for me) to be part of the same universe as the first two, but in it's own right it's a pretty good popcorn flick - not great, but certainly not as bad as the unfair drubbing it gets purely because of the films that it followed.

"Terminator: Salvation" was a different kettle of fish for me - far more in tune with the original movie, some great moments - but it had a problem from the outset in that it wanted to be an "Intelligent" movie but cater at the same time to the brainless multiplex goers who think Twilight is a classic of it's genre. Ultimately, it achieves neither (though veers dangerously close to the latter), but it does serve as a solid setup for continuation, without being stupid about it (although, in hindsight, I do wonder if the people involved now regret including the Arnie-Terminator).

I will look forward to parts 5 and 6, and be happy to pass my money over the counter to see them. I just hope - HOPE - that the emphasis is on story and characterisation rather than Ahnuld (though SOMEHOW, Cameron manage a perfect balance in T2). That's where Terminator wins.

EDIT - apparently that site's source was either bogus, or out of date and things have changed.

It's far from a bad movie, but while it would be good as a stand alone movie, it doesn't fit the Terminator universe. Christian Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard just don't fit in the Terminator world. Sam Worthington was superb though.
What baffles me is that everybody was drooling over it when it came out, and now everybody seems to hate it. At least I hated it from the beginning.

T2 is nowhere near as good as some people think it is. The only really good, original movie in the series was the first one.

The Terminator is good, Judgement Day is great, Rise Of The Machines has its moments, Salvation is shit, but then again the guy who directed it calls himself McG. A douchebag if there ever was one.

In 50 years Herrmann will be forgotten.

T2 and the original will never be matched. I have to say just for sheer anxiety the original is more raw.

Yes. The low-fi hard edge of the original adds an almost eerie quality which is lacking from the more expensive polished sequel.

I do like the ending of T3. The whole "We did that for nothing" thing, the fact that Judgment Day can't be stopped, it was quite nice. This film has many flaws, but the ending surely wasn't one of them.

It's tame compared to the nuclear scenes from Terminator 2, which packed a real punch.

I agree. A real downer, but I like films that surprise that way, esp. Hollywood films. It also makes everything fit together. I do wish they'd gotten Edward Furlong to repeat his role as John Connor, though (and in 4 as well), but I understand that he's been having some issues in recent years.

Yes. There are a lot of nuclear weapons in the world just ready to be used. It's ridiculous. They should be used up there, to move spaceships. But that's forbidden and apparently it's better to have them in missiles pointing at other's strategic targets.

Take it as you will, but Leonard Maltin gave T4 *** stars. You guys are speaking about the film as being as bad as Friday The 13th Part 2 or something. It's not.

Maltin's been unreliable over the last ten years because he plays it too safe and gives almost anything three stars. Everything from Batman Begins, Superman Returns, The Simpsons Movie, KOTCS, ROTS - all three stars, whether they deserved it or not. Yet he gives The Dark Knight only two.

Yes they would exist, the ending of T2 changed the future, not the immediate past/present. This isn't some stupid ripoff of back to the future comedic syfy where the photograph is going blank.

All of those films deserve that rating. And if you think he "plays it safe" and gives almost anything three stars, maybe its time to read a few more of the reviews in his book ;)
