Is anyone else at all excited about this?  I absolutely love the summer olympics.  I have a mild love for the winter, but summer is where my heart is.  They aired a lot of the qualifying rounds in the States and I watched just about every minute I could.  I freaking sat on my couching, drank a beer, and watched the steeplechase prelims.

One more week.

Not terribly fond of the logo, though.

I can hardly wait to watch some of this. Unfortunately I will barely be able to watch much due to lack of tv. maybe thi is the reason I should have gone to london! ;)

I'm looking forward to as much as I'll be able to watch with the -- six hour? -- delay.

I'm less enthused about the fuss that will inevitablybe made of the US Men's B-Ball team.

@Wojo: stop being facetious.

Time for manual recording of Williams bumpers?

I doubt they'll top the majesty of the opening ceremony of the Bejing games

I'll be watching some of it for sure. It's great that we'll be able to watch it all in HD (1080i), some sports come across awesome in HD's picture clarity! :) The logo is shit though, what is it supposed to mean/represent anyway? This year's number, 2012? It's an only explanation that occurs to me, and even for that one must have a LOT of imagination. :eh:

Human aggression is instinctual. Humans have not evolved any ritualised aggression-inhibiting mechanisms to ensure the survival of the species. For this reason man is considered a very dangerous animal.

It cost something like £200,000 and a large proportion of this country agreed when it was first revealed - it's total rubbish. The BBC website had people submitting their lunchtime doodlings, and most were way better than this.

I'm looking forward to the opening ceremony in glorious 3D. Plus, the torch passed by my house yesterday

Haven't you heard? It represents Lisa Simpson doing a blowjob to some dude (NOT MY INTERPRETATION!)

The Lisa Simpsonesque logo may be a bit naff, but it is undeniably recognisable and I do rather like the two mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville. A soft toy version of Wenlock wearing a policeman's uniform has been described as resembling a 'creature from the depths of hell.'

Is anyone else at all excited about this?

I am! :joy:

It doesn't seem possible that it was seven years ago when it was announced that London had got the Games. It has been remarkable seeing the transformation of Stratford and the construction of so many amazing new sporting venues since then (I've been inside the new Aquatics Centre for one of the test events - just wait until you see it!). Although there has been quite a bit of negativity about security, ticket arrangements, transport, etc., as the Olympics have drawn closer I think the organisers have got most things right. Our opening ceremony may well not turn out to be as spectacularly choreographed as Beijing's, but I bet ours will be a lot more fun and will show off the self-deprecating British sense of humour.

I've got tickets to a couple of events so far and haven't yet given up hope of going to one or two more events on top of that, as new tickets are still being made available on a daily basis. The torch will be going right past where I work next week so I am looking forward to that too.

so are the rumors of a mini Bond Film, and a duel between Lord Voldemort and Mary Poppin's true.
OH God, Joe is posting again, someone hand me my pills!

"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

It'll eclipse The Walking Dead in the ratings.

True. :D

Ars superior est vita hominum.

"We pop out and come into the world and music is there. We didn't invent it - it's all organised in the atmosphere by divinity or whatever. It's a miracle." - John Williams-

I think music is a stream of some kind. It could be blood. It could be water. It could be ether. Whatever it is it seems to be a living, organic force that’s in motion, that serves humanity and is part of humanity and part of what describes us as humans. We sing, play, dance, all the things that we do. And there is a vibrant and great literature we have been given. ... As musicians, we join the stream. We swim in the stream with all the other millions of music makers. It’s a life force, a strong one, surrounding us and we are part of it. -John Williams-
