On the FSM forum. I came upon an announcement that a long-standing member had passed away. This has happened a few times there over the years.

As far as I know this has never happened here. Many members have been here for years, and have told of loved one dying. But we have never hear of one of us passing away?

It is possible that that has happened. actually, statistically speaking it's more then likely that in the 13 years this place has been here a few members who were at one time very active are no longer here.

The thought frightens me a little, that an active member could one day just stop posting. Because he, or she no longer can....

Don't worry, I'm sure most of us are so traumatised by JWfan that they will come back to haunt this place.

Who tells me it isn't your ghost posting this?

I know it`s not the most healthy thought, but I was thinking the other day that if I died, none of you folks would really know.

Hmm....

See, nobody even knows I frequent this forum. So what would I do? Leave instructions for my relatives to go on this forum and make an obituary thread upon my passing?

Posted

In the older days it was impossible to know if a user who hasn't posted in a while was dead, or still alive and just not visiting JWFan

Nowadays a lot of us are Facebook friends so we'll find out that way.

It's only people like King Mark and Bloodboal who refuse to give out any personal details or use social networking sites that we'd probably not know about their passings

King Marks full name is well known to me and has been for years.

Well yes, but you wouldn't find out that he died unless you googled for his obituary every day

I don`t have Facebook (for stupid reasons really) and tend to refrain from similar social networking sites. So I don`t benefit from them, leaving my potential absence from the web unexplained.

Why not?

Well, I`m not really sure they`d be up for it. I don`t think inforuming a forum will be on their minds as a priority. I don`t know, its a strange thing.

If someone dies, he won;t post on Facebook either.

I wonder if someone in a virtual community will be missed as much as in real life...I dont; think so.

I've had that idea in my mind for so long that I don't know anymore what could possibly be real and what my brain just decided to use as an stand-in image of BloodBoal.

The crazy side comes from the Finnish blood. The rare moments of insight come from your mother I presume.

Yes, yes you got me... I am Pierre. Pierre Jean-Luc Reno. But I'm 34.

And my father is Finnish, and my mother is Canadian. That's why I always got along very well with KK and Inky. It's in my genes, you know.

Do you speak Catalan with a funny Fgench accent?

I once met a very hot Polish girl who was learning Castilian who tried to teach me to pronounce Polish. It was impossible!.

Unless such a person had virtually no Facebook friends, the news would be obvious from the many comments and memorials left on the person's page.

Obviously not, but family members and friends would make posts on his wall about it, plus Facebook has a "In Memorium" mode that a family member or friend can turn on for a page so anyone visiting knows he's passed

I'm imagining him speaking french right now.

heh... hehehe. hehehehehh. nice...

I'm imagining him as a guiri trying to speak Catalan in the middle of crowded Barcelona, a bit like Marcus in that scene from The Last Crusade.

Finalement, un person qui parle une langue que je peux parler! Aucune finnois ou le suédois!

C'est dommage! Pourquoi?

Pourquoi j'ai oublié (?)

Mitä helvettiä?

Ez zaitut ulertzen!

Actually I do understand. My Finnish is excellent. I bet you had no idea.

Uskon, että suomeni on loistavaa. Mutta se on oikeastaan huonoa. En voi vieläkään suomentaa minun viestiäni.

Pourquoi avez-vous appris le français? Pourquoi avez-vous arrêter de parler?

You're trying to piss me off, but it's not going to work so... SHUT THE FUCK UP!!

As is the fate of all JWFan threads, but I`ll stop now.

At school. Then I didn't continue with it. I admit I'm not the biggest fan of the language but now I wish I hadn't done so.

Posted

I definitely like it more than English.

Posted

I've had more afinity for English. Both have infernal pronunciation nowadays, but English is definitely easier on my ears.

Depends of the person. My own taste in languages has changed over time.

Why are we not morbidly discussing the essence of life and the short lives of men but rather languages? I ask you, is this the right place for it my brethren? Or the time? Time is slipping through our fingers, fingers that will soon be too weak to type messages here as years sap the strengths from our limbs and wit from our minds. Woe is us. Woe I tell you!

I wasn`t always a fan of French, but now I love it. I definitely prefer it to Germanic-based languages. I can`t stand Deutsche.

In the end, I`m best with English though, largely because I can express myself more to my satisfaction than most other languages.

Deutsch is an acquired taste. It can get kind of cool.

But the r most Germans and French use should be banished from the Earth.
