Josh500 1,620 Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 The best, or most fitting, songs, songs that have, for some reason or other, stayed in your memory! And I am talking about pop, rock, or other popular songs... songs which haven't been specially arranged or orchestrated for the JW-scored movie (so, for example, the Mandarin version of "Anything Goes" in ToD or "Suo Gan" from EotS don't count, since these versions were specially produced for their respective movies).Examples that I like: The opening of KotCS:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HWhrPaDTj4Munich: BotFOJ and Minority Report:

Josh500 1,620 Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Catch Me If You Can: Come Fly with Me by Frank SinatraThe Look of Love by Dusty SpringfieldGood ones! From this movie, I've also always been partial to Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song"... the piano solo halfway through is really moving, I thought. Pennies from Heaven - Angela's AshesHmmm, gotta listen to this in the movie again. I have no memory of this song at all--in fact, I have no idea even where it plays in the movie...
indy4 160 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I've never seen the movie but the song is included on the OST
russds 8 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Two source cues stick out, i don't know why, but they just fit the scenes so well.1. Last crusade: Benny Goodman - You're a sweet little headache: 2. Saving private ryan - which i think is Edith Piaf "Tu es Partout"I would also include When you Wish Upon a Star, but i don't know if that qualifies with your intent, i believe it was heavily John-Williams-ised in Close Encounters.....Great song though. Also, I believe i read one of JW personal favorites.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 The James Bond theme, as used in CMIYC. It's interesting - not to mention cheeky! - to have a John Barry composition in a JW-scored film. It's also nice to hear "Chances Are" in CE3K.
Wojo 2,458 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Going back to Josh's first post, that's interesting. I never realized Black Magic Woman was not a Santana original.

Monty Norman is the composer.Going back to Josh's first post, that's interesting. I never realized Black Magic Woman was not a Santana original.Munich uses some great songs, I thought. I also love the scene where the character played by Daniel Craig and an Arab engage in a fight on what to listen on the radio...

Sorry, Josh, but I've got one word to say to that:BOLLOCKS!!!!!
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 It's not that bad, but it's not as good as "Lapti Nek".

Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 If by "capitalise" you mean coming up with the 3 note chromatic vamp, opening octave motif, swing section, outro and so on, along with arranging it for orchestra, then yes I agree. The 2001 court case was a shambles.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Hear, hear, Prometheus. Well said.p.s. who is the mysterious character lurking in your avatar?
