Thor 9,362 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I just listened to the crummy-sounding bootleg of this 10-minute concert work again, and it really demonstrated once again that it deserves a proper recording and release. It combines some of Williams' more experimental/avantgarde textures with elements of the more melodic side, especially in the string section.Who's with me?
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 i'm happy with the original... Yes all Williams works should be recorded and released officially But i think there are two versions of this work... the second performance was broadcasted in good quality.Or not?
Thor 9,362 Posted April 14, 2013 Author Posted April 14, 2013 Could be? I always thought I had the broadcasted version, and that isn't of top quality, to put it mildly. But maybe I've had the other one for all these years.
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 mmm i cant find it...Maybe miguel can shed some light.I remember that maybe only part (one or two movements) was performed again. But i could be mixing concerts... :/
Maurizio 6,913 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I heard this live in Chicago back in 2007. It's one of those pieces that really explodes when you hear it played live. Also, I love the slight nod to Prokofiev's Symphony No.5 hidden in it.
Miguel Andrade 1,727 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 The broadcast you're mentioning is probably the world premiere, with the BSO under Seiji Ozawa.Williams conducted it several other times, in Boston, Washington D.C. and Chicago, as Maurizio said. The later one was broadcast and was even available at the CSO website for some time.
