Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Seiter posted four tracks to his site:https://soundcloud.com/chadseiter/sets/star-trek-1http://www.chadseiter.com/music/
crocodile 9,724 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Some nice variations on Giacchino's material.Karol
Quintus 6,496 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Oops. Having listened to the Brains and Brawn track, I thought it was pretty good actually and what I've come to expect from a polished video game score. Eurogamer commented on the score too in their review of the game, saying that it often came together well with the gameplay to make for some genuinely stirring moments in an otherwise mediocre movie tie-in. Of what I just heard, I can see where they're coming from.

Jay 46,244 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Wow, I really like what I am hearing! Â Brains and Brawn - In 4 minutes, this piece goes through more variations of Giacchino's Trek theme than their entirety of the original 09 score! (And probably STID too). I really, really enjoyed this piece. Â The Gorn Identity - Brilliant title! Anyway, it begins as a Giacchino-esque action track (like something out of John Carter or STID) and then evolves into something more unique. Good stuff. Â Helios One - I like the sole trumpet rendition of the main theme! This is good sneaking around, exploring type music. Fun! Â Sun Flares - Oooh, a return of the Main Ostinatto from ST09 (which I don't think even appears in STID). Another fun action track! I love the piercing bit that ends the track. Â I noticed that the tracks are labeled like they are only 4 tracks from a longer promo (IE Helios One is track 4 and Sun Flares is track 8), so it appears a promo CD was assembled out of the recording sessions. I would LOVE to hear the entire promo!!
luke905 18 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I must admit that I really like these pieces.Stylistically, is obviously more raw than Giacchino (and also of Tilton in my opinion), but the capabilities are all there and promise well for the future of the composer. For sure it will not be long before someone extract the music from the game, in the hope that the tracks are not too fragmented as often happens.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Is the soundtrack situation still the same, Chad? Hope this doesn't become another Fracture where they had you assemble an album and then not release it.
chadseiter 0 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I have put together a CD and mastered it. It sounds great and I'm INCREDIBLY proud of it. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to see release. Looks like I'm just going to have to do better next time.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 You should be proud, the five tracks you've posted are all awesome! Â I would love be able to hear the whole CD....
luke905 18 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I agree with Jason.Yesterday I bought the game especially in order to have the opportunity to listen to your score as a whole.I played the first levels, and music is the best thing about the whole game.
KK 3,313 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I thought Brain and Brawns is a great track. I'll listen to the rest when I get the chance.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Brains and Brawns was an enjoyable piece of music. I'd argue some of it is more interesting than Giacchino's material. Really? You think "Ship to Ship" is predictable but you find a generic overly dramatic, melancholy, and EPIC!!!!!!11111oneoneone Remote Control Productions sounding treatment more interesting?
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 I don't Hear RCP, ship to ship sounds more like RCP than this.
luke905 18 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 None of them is like music coming from RCP in my opinion.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 There is nothing in this score that sounds RCP at all, you are out of your mind Blume.

You think "Ship to Ship" is predictable but you find a generic overly dramatic, melancholy, and EPIC!!!!!!11111oneoneone Remote Control Productions sounding treatment more interesting? Why does it sound like RCP? Because of the ostinato? Giacchino's been using ostinatos like that all over his Star Trek scores. And there's a lot of colour in this cue, seems less cold than some of Giacchino's Trek stuff (if you know what I mean). Is this cue a bit predictable, yes. But it's more entertaining than "Ship to Ship"
Henry B 51 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I agree with Blume, in the sense that this music gives up all the goods too soon. When every moment is a catharsis it's hard to feel or care about anything.I mean, the orchestration is well done, though.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 WOW. This score is AWESOME. Might just be my favorite score of the year. I think I like it more than Into Darkness (or, at least better than the Into Darkness OST presentation, as I haven't heard the entire score). Â Seriously, this needs a release STAT. Â Wow!
publicist 4,650 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Why does it sound like RCP? Because of the ostinato? Giacchino's been using ostinatos like that all over his Star Trek scores.Yes. And they are fucking boring, too.
Brónach 1,330 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I don't know, I find the use of ostinatos in cues like Enterprising Young Men to be very exciting. But not always, though. That's why I think Gia's 09 Star Trek score is solid and fun but I feel it needs more veriety of techniques and ideas.

And they are fucking boring, too. They are boring in Giacchino's scores and this one. But there is more to that cue than the ostinato.
publicist 4,650 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 INTO DARKNESS is fresh in my memory from seeing it and whatever the qualities of the score are, the action music doesn't belong to them.I like the basic rhythmic approach in ENTERPRISING YOUNG MEN well enough, but it's the only real highlight in between the most simple rhythmic conceits imagineable. Most of it sounds as if it is from a rather cheap ostinati construction kit and he either speeds them up or slows them down. The thematic ideas are not half bad (like having Spock's etc. theme playing with bold horns on top) it's really the execution that kills it.
KK 3,313 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I've been listening to the score recently too. The score doesn't really go in many bold directions. The action music is usually based on some simple ostinato around which decorative frenzy revolves. His thematic statements are rather static. It's either the same ostinato passed along various sections (ex. Harrison's Theme) with the occaison dynamic/tempo variations. And the reliance on the main theme (or the Enterprise theme) is rather exhausting as it's novelty from the first one has worn off. Perhaps it's because Giacchino doesn't do anything particularly new with the theme. He relies on the same rhythmic devices and accompanying ostinatos from the first score. This score as heard on album doesn't add much to what we heard before. It seems like more of the same. Of course this is based on album presentation, which doesn't seem too good at the moment. I'll have to wait for the film this Friday then. And this score does have highlights. Although I've neglected to mention its merits, I just wanted to point out my issues at the moment.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 You're talking about STID right? Â Have you heard Seiter's score yet?
KK 3,313 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Yes, I'm talking about STID.I haven't heard Steiter's score yet, but I'd like to. The one track I heard sounds great imo.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 There are 8 tracks on his site now! http://www.chadseiter.com/2013/05/sample-music-from-star-trek-the-video-game-by-chad-seiter/
ZackR 187 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 This is really good stuff. I'd really love to get my hands on the complete score for sure.
ZackR 187 Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I'm not kidding. This is my favorite score of 2013 so far. His variations of the Giacchino main theme are fantastic. This should definitely be released officially. Love it!!
Jay 46,244 Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Yea, with each new track that comes out I appreciate this even more. I feel like a lot of time and care was put into this score.
