Jay 46,244 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Up for pre-order on Amazon UKhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CMIWYW0/
Matt C 605 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Hm, I thought WaterTower would retain the soundtrack rights worldwide.
Jay 46,244 Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 There was a score last year that came out on WaterTower in the USA and Sony Classical overseas, but I forget which one.I can't even find Pacific Rim on Amazon US yet.Oh, I think I was thinking of An Unexpected Journey, which was Water Tower in the US and Decca overseas. And the overseas version of the LE packaging sucked compared to the USA packaging.
Incanus 5,890 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Oh, I think I was thinking of An Unexpected Journey, which was Water Tower in the US and Decca overseas. And the overseas version of the LE packaging sucked compared to the USA packaging.Yeah they got really cheap on us here at Europe with the lousy packaging materials.
Ollie 1,375 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Had Del Toro stuck to his usual composers this would have been a sure buy. Now it's a big pass.
Jilal 681 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Had Del Toro stuck to his usual composers this would have been a sure buy. Now it's a big pass.Ditto. A Beltrami score would have been great.
Brónach 1,330 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Beltrami would have kicked ass in this! Oh well.
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 shame choice of composer...the movie looks fun so it is a must see...
Jay 46,244 Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 Samples, track list, and cover art are up on Amazon US, which also indicates the mp3 version comes out June 25thhttp://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DFRVAC2/In fact, I can't find a listing for a physical release in the US at all....So it looks like WaterTower Records is releasing it digital only in the US on June 25th, and then Sony Classical is releasing it on physical CDs internationally on July 9th.The Amazon UK page has been updated with a higher-res cover, as well as additional artist info for some of the trackshttp://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CMIWYW0/
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 no matter who scored this it would undoubtedly be a LOUD score.
Luke Skywalker 2,385 Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Not my kind of music. But i think it's going to fit the film like a glove...I could see a Mechwarrior videogame having this score But then, Evangelion used Classical pieces...
ManofDestiny 104 Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I wish someone else could score it. Even Steve Jablonsky would be acceptable.
Ollie 1,375 Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Sigh.........Please....please let a good composer score Godzilla....please not this shit.
KK 3,313 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Sounds more musical than Man of Steel...The score sounds like it'll be a good fit for this film.
Ollie 1,375 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Movies like this can actually have good music, Steiner, Herrmann, JNH, John Barry, Jerome Moross, John Scott and Akira Ifukube have proven that over time.
KK 3,313 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Oh I don't question that. But to expect that from today's blockbusters is sadly an exercise of disillusionment.
Ollie 1,375 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I am somewhat surprised, given Del Toro's previous collaborations with Elfman and Beltrami.I thought one of those would be a shoe-in.
KK 3,313 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Indeed. Was Djawadi brought in at the studio's behest?
Ollie 1,375 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 From what I understand this was Del Toro's choice. If the studio stepped in I would have figured Hans Zimmer.
KK 3,313 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well Zimmer is known to pass many such assignments onto his underlings. What on earth made Del Toro choose Djawadi?!
KK 3,313 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Really? Huh. I guess it has increased his popularity.
Incanus 5,890 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 It might have been the style of Djawadi's previous assignments that got him the job (or studio pressure) as the soundclips sound like Del Toro was going for a more rock/modern film scoring sensiblities than old fashioned orchestral approach anyway as I am sure he would have had a word or two to say if this wasn't the style he was after.
Jay 46,244 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Digital release now up for sale in the UShttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DFRVAC2/https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/pacific-rim-soundtrack-from/id661937691https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Ramin_Djawadi_Pacific_Rim_Soundtrack_from_Warner_B?id=Byuxrp5q5334wj5asbmgv2adcwq&feature=artist-albums#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDYwMiwiYWxidW0tQnl1eHJwNXE1MzM0d2o1YXNibWd2MmFkY3dxIl0.
Matt C 605 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 The samples don't sound too bad. I think score-wise, Pacific Rim is more preferable than Jablonsky's Transformers abominations. There's a pleasing beat and energy to Djawadi's score that Jablonsky and lately Zimmer have been lacking lately.
ManofDestiny 104 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 The Last TF score is better.Anyway, I will decide buying it or not after watch the movie, if it is indeed better than Man of Steel or TFs.
Matt C 605 Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 In terms of samples, Pacific Rim has that enjoyable retro RC/MV vibe that was sadly lacking from Man of Steel. I won't know for sure until I hear it in the film/album proper, but so far I'm liking it.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Listening to this now, and you're right, Matt. Has some cool instrumentation and vocals, and an overall older MV sound.
Jay 46,244 Posted July 3, 2013 Author Posted July 3, 2013 This is on Spotify too, I might check it out later. I like Tom Morello
ManofDestiny 104 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/pacific_rim.htmlIt got 4 stars in filmtracks. What a surprise, especially for a remote control's score. You can say it is highly recommended.
Jay 46,244 Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 I listened to Pacific Rim on Spotify last week, and I didn't hate it at all!I actually was grabbed by the early tracks - I liked the guitar work and the general vibe. And there is definitely a recurring theme throughout the entire OST that isn't one of the best ever themes but memorable enough for sure. The album just dragged in the middle to the point where I wasn't paying too much attention by the end. I'll definitely give it another listen sometime, though!
Richard P 5,303 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Not sure what you guys are hearing... listened to the first few tracks and didn't hear anything remarkable or memorable. The first track sounded like a vocal was missing. And I was reading a certain review and saw this:A lot of people will criticize the use of electric guitars and there’s no pleasing those people. So no point in arguing. Let them sit in their rocking chairs on their porches and yell about how scores should be, if you ignore them then they will fade away. This is how a score for an epic monster movie should be, and every moment was a blast.Way to alienate your readers Kaya....I'm fine with electric guitars, but the overall sound of this score isn't appealing to me.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,387 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Movie looks awesome It looks like this years Transformers or Battle ship.
Jay 46,244 Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Are you really replying to a post I made 2 months ago?Anyways no, it looks light years better than Transformers or Battleship.
Wojo 2,458 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 It's got Idris Elba. How can it be bad? Oh wait...
Matt C 605 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 The reviews on this, unlike Transformers or Battleship, are getting decent reviews. It's likely to bomb at the box office, since the marketing doesn't distinguish it from looking Transformers-lite. Unless it has a decent opening and good word-of-mouth.
crocodile 9,724 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 The reviews on this, unlike Transformers or Battleship, are getting decent reviews. It's likely to bomb at the box office, since the marketing doesn't distinguish it from looking Transformers-lite. Unless it has a decent opening and good word-of-mouth.That's exactly why I didn't want to watch it. The marketing mede Del Toro look like a sell-out.Karol
Matt C 605 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I enjoyed it a LOT more than Bay's puke-inducing CGI messes. Del Toro pays attention to detail and world-building, and the battles focus on the characters piloting the Jaegers. Some folks didn't like the two main actors in the film, but they were much more tolerable than Shia laBoeuf and Megan Fox were. And Ramin's score was a nice throwback to the MV/RC scores of the late 1990s and early 2000s, very fun. Not Ramin's best score, but a lot more fun than Red Dawn or Iron Man.
Richard P 5,303 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 I took another listen at the weekend and I still can't understand what's inspiring people about this score. I'm not finding this mythical 'theme' either.
Jay 46,244 Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 I am notorious for listening to scores and not picking up on the themes, but I easily heard the main theme to Pacific Rim on my first listen of the OST...
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 People's brains tend to be unable to process themes when it comes to anything Zimmer or RCP related.
