Ok, something to debate about:

Destiny. In my English class we recently had a 55 minute long discussion about destiny. I just wanted to know what your take on destiny was. It will be interesting to hear people's arguments on this topic because there is obviously no known correct answer. I don't have time to write my whole thing right now (I will later) but I just wanted to get this topic started. So tell me, what do YOU think...?

I remember a great scene from the movie "Signs", where Gibson was talking to his brother about what they were seeing on the screen (the Alien lights above the city). Basically, it was a case of "You see what you want to see". I believe and have observed (as anyone else can any moment too) that the same event happens in life no matter which filter you are viewing it through, and cannot be changed. Destiny, Chance, God inspired, or a personal decision. Take your pick from the various filters. One look at any one situation from various angles and philosophical filters will reveal that everyone is experiencing the same event happen no matter what they think about it, and is at the mercy of that event no matter what. That we cannot deny. Hence the scene is basically saying "Take your pick from the various filters and embrace one which makes you feel comfortable, even if there is no proof for it being the truth". For the record, i'm someone who likes to embrace the "Destiny" thing as it's more fun and takes weight off your shoulders if you believe there is some grand plan going on here. Meeting certain people at certain times, appearing in a place at a given time etc. All of it being one pre-made movie playing back on the reel. I have to admit that i've met certain people at certain times and been in certain situations that just seem to surreal to have been pure chance. Then again, they could of been sheer chance. As i say, it does'nt matter what we in our small minds think. We're at the mercy of the event nonetheless. But i like to feel we're all being moved around like chess pieces. It's more fun (for me) looking at it that way. But for others, that approach is the closest thing to hell that they can imagine. Take your pick

What if Spielberg hadn't just casually found and grabbed a copy of the novel 'Jaws' from the producer's office when he was absent? What if the original director hadn't dropped the project? Where would 'Close Encounters', 'Indiana Jones', 'E.T.', 'Jurassic Park' and 'Schindler's List' be?

It's little things that turn into big, just like that example, that makes me think that there's, if not a bigger plan, at least somebody pulling some strings from time to time.

In all speculation he probably would have. However it is just speculation. So it seems like a fat waste of time to think about it.
