Hey, I just checked out the program for that concert he'll be doing in Aspen and it looks pretty good...he's got the overture to The Wasps, Tree Song and the Violin Concerto (which seem to be rare in his concerts) and The Planets, which I know is one of Johns favorite works...is anyone here planning to attend?

Yeah, I'm going with my family. I'm in school now (can you guess where?), but I've lived in Colorado for over 10 years. I've been to Aspen many times in both the summer and winter, but I've never been to the Aspen Music Festival. I'd highly recommend going. The concert is underneath a 2,050 Tent that was built only 4 years ago and is somewhat open to the elements. Also, there's a grassy lawn surrounding the Tent that is supposedly open and free to the public during concerts. So you can still enjoy Williams and Aspen without having to spend $50+ for a ticket. I can't wait.

Sorry, that's a 2,050 seat Tent. Also, just another plug for my home state: Aspen and the rest of the Rockies in the summer offer a ton of really fun things to do (hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, and the list goes on and on). There are going to be a lot of other great concerts, operas, and performances (some of which are free to all) going on during the Festival too. So, if you really enjoy classical music, I've been told that you won't want to miss it.

Sounds a lot like what the BSO has going at Tanglewood...nothing is free, but 15 dollars to lounge out in the lawn isn't bad at all...I really like that enviroment for concerts so I can see why you highly recommend it...Someday when I get out to that part of the country, I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

he's got the overture to The Wasps

Wasps is neat, my second-favourite RVW work (#1 is the Tallis Fantasia of course). But just the overture? That's not enough.

Marian - who won't be there anyway.

Hearing the Planets live (especially Jupiter) would be electrifying.

It's supposed to be pretty good - hard to get in to as a student, but I'd never paid any attention to their professional line-up until I saw JW was going to be there. But they've also got Neville Marriner, Ann Schein, Gil Shaham, and Howard Shore coming, so it must be a pretty prestigious thing. Either that or the celebs just wanted to hang out in Aspen some more.
