Julie Andrews will sing, once again, in her next film "The Princess Diaries 2". You can read the complete story here.

This may mean nothing to some of you, but to me it is terrific and heartwarming news. Andrews, as you may or not know, has been unable to sing since a throat operation left her without a singing voice. I can't tell you the countless times I've enjoyed Victor/Victoria, Sound of Music, Darling Lili and Mary Poppins to name a few...

I hope she's gonna sing "O Death" in it. If not, then "Man of Constant Sorrow" be fine.

More than a singer, I always thought of her as an actress who sang. She really can act in her singing, better than most other actresses. Never has Eliza Doolittle shun as much as on Broadway, and when somebody outdoes Audrey Hepburn... that means something.

Well said. Acting while singing is the difference. It seems like many musicals come across contrived because actors switch into "vocal mode" whenever a song starts. She was able to stay in character in such a way that the songs fit naturally in the film.

That's why Rex Harrison's My Fair Lady is my favorite performance ever in a musical. So much of the character and so much acting comes out of his singing.

That is great news. As a music teacher, i always am a bit scared that I may develop nodes on my vocal chords and I HOPE I remember to do all the right things so I won't get them. You can't even talk for a long time after surgery, let alone even try to sing.

Yea Morlock, well said...I really like the way he doesn't become a singer and then go back to an actor...but kinda gets into the music as a character...I've seen some actresses and actors (can't think of any off the top of my head) that become a song and its seems like they change as a character for the moment...and yes, Julie Andrews would defenitly fall into that same catagory!

Hitch, your post is hilarious, if you imagine Patrick Stewart donning a barbershop quartet hat and singing it as he dances across the bridge.
:lol:

@Wojo: stop being facetious.
