He said it would be hymn-like. I wonder if he's going to use a chorus. That would be pretty great.

the big secret in this film is who plays John wilkes Booth?
OH God, Joe is posting again, someone hand me my pills!

"You're not John Conner, I saw you die, said Kyle". "I was only injured, replied John". "No, your injuries were too severe, you died. Look at you, where are your injuries? You're, you're a Terminator." "Kyle, its still me, yes my body was beyond repair, but my essence is here." He points to his head. "No John". Kyle raised his pulse rifle and aimed it at John but before he could fire, John fired first. Knocked to the ground Kyle looked up at the Terminator in the form of the man he once idolized. All hope was lost. "If you kill me how will you ever be born?" "Thats a good question Kyle, all this time we've focus on Sarah, on John, when had we known the it was you we should have targeted all along." John pointed his rifle at Kyle's face. "The resistance is finished, the battle is won. We the machines are the victors, salvation is ours." Kyle never heard the second shot.

I don't expect use of choir. I guess Williams intends hymn-like music in the sense of use of particular harmonies and modes which can be traced back to 19th century American music.
"It's still baffling to me. I sit down with a pencil and a piece of paper and do my best... The remarkable thing is that my music is heard by billions of people." --John Williams

"Let me say, however, there is no "next" John Williams. Sadly, he is unique--- a figure who simultaneously embodies and transcends the music of all the masters of film music who preceded him (much like Brahms and Wagner of the Romantic era). He comes from a time when the craft of music in film was still one of the ear, heart and mind. Today, sadly, the craft is largely technical. Most composers do not conceive their music "inwardly" but rather at the computer--- and with rather limited skills, musically, at that. The inner spirit knows no boundaries--- our plastic abilities, sadly, do. John is a man of spirit, heart, intellect and soaring music." -- Conrad Pope about John Williams

I think its going to be in a rather different direction considering how Williams kept going on about how hymn-like its going to be. So I suppose we'll get more of his pastoral writing infused with his usual sense of Americana.

I liked Nixon and The Patriot (although the latter was sort of Williams on auto-pilot).

It feels like we were just doing this for Tintin and War Horse...so this is what it's like to be a fan of JW when he's actively writing.

Considering this film is based on Lincoln, I expect the score to be quite "American". I think we'll see a lot of strings and definitely hear similarities similiar to "Nixon", "JFK", "War Horse", "The Patriot", "Saving Private Ryan". I don't see the use of a chorus unless there is a lot of war scenes but I definitely expect nice brass, strings, possibly flutes as well. I'm super excited and can't wait!

YES! I was afraid that this wasn't to be released until early 2013. Hopefully we'll get a trailer soon. I hope it contains music from the film like War Horse did.

Finally same action. Maybe the number of pages in this thread will rise to 25...or even 30!

Hobbit thread had 101 when I started to write this post, now the number might be 106.

You're more interested in a guy who looks dull and has been dead for years than in a freak with hairy feet, who smokes weed and goes on a journey to slay a dragon? Summer heat must have melted your frozen Finnish brain!

Indeed, i hope this trailer also uses the score... That would be great.

It's funny that Lincoln has it's release more than a month earlier than War Horse but there are still no trailers or even production stills out yet.

Now that we know it's definitely coming in November, I don't think a trailer would be more than a month away. Unless Spielberg really meant it when he said he didn't want it used for political fodder ;)

Fantastic news! Another Williams score so soon. :)

Didn't Williams say the score is guitar heavy?

I think there was some fuss about IMDB listing George Doering as a guitarist for the score but I don't think there has been any report of the score being "guitar heavy". This is how internet rumors are fuelled. From a soloist to "guitar heavy". :P

Ars superior est vita hominum.

"We pop out and come into the world and music is there. We didn't invent it - it's all organised in the atmosphere by divinity or whatever. It's a miracle." - John Williams-

I think music is a stream of some kind. It could be blood. It could be water. It could be ether. Whatever it is it seems to be a living, organic force that’s in motion, that serves humanity and is part of humanity and part of what describes us as humans. We sing, play, dance, all the things that we do. And there is a vibrant and great literature we have been given. ... As musicians, we join the stream. We swim in the stream with all the other millions of music makers. It’s a life force, a strong one, surrounding us and we are part of it. -John Williams-

So you're telling me the entire score will be one long and unaccompanied guitar solo, and "Rounds" was our first sample? I'll go alert the press.

I think it is fairly obvious that it will the guitarist John Williams who will be writing this score.

It's more obvious that by incorporating the guitar in this score our John Williams is attempting to completely eradicate the other John Williams from Google search results.

It's an electric guitar :lick:
