put the pipe down Tom, if the man goes begging, which he did, its a sign his clout is dimished.

15 years ago who'd beleive that Spielberg could not get 50 million dollars to make a movie.

Fifteen years ago we weren't entering a severe financial crisis.

Wasn't there a big recession in the early 1990's?

In Australia there was. It was the one we had to have otherwise we'd have become a banana republic.

did you guys know that Spielberg's take from Universal Studios in Florida is upwards of 50 million dollars.

Why doesn't he finance it himself.

And use his own money? You have to be crazy or Mel Gibson to do that.

Yeah. We don't want Mr Spielberg going down the same road GL did by wasting good money on characters like Jar Jar Binks.

Maybe it's more the subject matter and not Spielberg's ability? Economy isn't in great shape, and as I said before, it's not a movie subject that magnetically draws people in. I can perfectly understand why this was turned down.

Is Spielberg shooting it now? What's the latest on this project? It's rumored that he started shooting it in early 2009, for a release in November. Any truth to that?

Spielberg still has his eye on Lincoln even though Robert Redford is soon to start filming his own film about Lincoln entitled The Conspirators.

Spielberg's Lincoln project has never been in any doubt as far as this observer was concerned. I remember finding this thread to be a tad over zealous when it appeared.

I am sure Spielberg could finance all of this by himself if it was so important to him...

But I can't say this project has excited me at all - neither for the film or the score - so fine with me.

According to what I've read, Daniel Day-Lewis might end up replacing Neeson for the main role. Also, Spielberg recently said that he spend the last two years putting Dreamworks back on its feet, that's why there was a lack of films from him in that time. However, and if I'm not mistaken, the new deal with Disney says that Spielberg will direct six films in the next years, starting with War Horse. And the following is my own thinking, but if Spielberg is able to get his box-office mojo back, he will be able to direct anything he wants, possibly Lincoln and/or Interstellar. Also, I want him to do Pirate Latitudes. Imagine the score we could get with that one! :D

That is awesome. DDL is hands-down one of the best actors, so him pairing with Spielberg is a real treat.
Do you like John Williams? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Jaws came out in '75 I really think he came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and an air of consummate professionalism that really gives the pieces a big boost. He's been compared to Jerry Goldsmith but I think John has a far more leitmotif-driven style of composing. In '82 John composed this, E.T., his most accomplished album to date. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "The Magic of Halloween", a theme so catchy most people don't listen to what it means. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of childhood and the importance of friendship, it's also a personal statement about the man himself. Hey Paul!

Indy 5?

Hmm, I'm generally not too happy about big actors playing big historical figures. Anyway, we'll have to wait 2 years before we can hear the soundtrack. Will it be another noble Tim Morrison score?
