"Like if it were a circle, this disc closes the boom of symphonic music that the author inaugurated almost 30 years ago with the first Star Wars.
Without leaving out the talent of his orchestral power and instrumental richness, in truth we are in front of the demonstration that the new technologies have caused much damage to film scores.
Actually, what John Williams has done is an adaptation: recicle his Amistad theme, mix samplers, cut and paste musical abstracts downloaded from internet, and condenses the last Media Ventures sounds (always them!) until converting them as his own.
Cues like Battle of the Heroes or Anakin vs. Obi-Wan are grandiose, but have the feeling as if we had already heard them. Film music seems to be in its death twitchings. This score shows it."

No, you're just sensationalist, reactionary and really rather boring. You don't give any reasons and you enjoy the attention - I pity the short-sightedness of most members of this board for giving it to you. Give me some justification in context of Williams' career, the film or the album and I'll give you a debate. Until then, do naff off.

I never knew by writing something very quickly because I am in a hurry could have such a deep meaning!

I gave my opinion and I am waiting for yours in regards to whether or not you like the movie score.

Instead you give attacks like you wrote the music yourself....

Somewhat underwhelming ROTS may be at first, but "dull" and "boring" it certainly is not. After seeing the movie and listening to the soundtrack over and over, the ROTS score has only given me an even deeper appreciation for Williams' music for not only SW and his other efforts, but film music in general. The man can't seem to do wrong.

You thought it was 'boring', 'not traditional' and 'not fun'. You couldn't justify or expand on any of these 'opinions', nor did you specify if you were talking about the album or the score in-film. So, like I said, carry on...

To get you kick started, I'll give you my opinion. It's as stylistically-fragmented as the film is, and therefore suits it well; tracks I thought ponderous (as you put it) actually turned out to be far more powerful in film (Ruminations, Teachings and to a lesser extent, Dream). The action writing isn't as enjoyable as the original trilogy's, which I think was part of what you were getting at, but it suits the scenes it scores perfectly. The final duel, again, required something very different and (aside from the ESB quotes) both the tracks featuring the BotH theme are stellar in writing and orchestration (but pipped by the unreleased duel music, as they hold each others' wrists). Some of my favourite unreleased cues had to be the planetary transitions, with all the new renditions of the Force theme - the 'traditional' writing you speak of? The choral pieces are all very pleasing to the ear, and I can't complain about them at all - except perhaps Padme's Destiny; arguing about its use in film is academic, but I think everyone would've rather had something else on album. All in all, I see much of it as traditional - far more so than AotC - and none of it boring, for REASONS STATED ABOVE.

Okay.to be fair I listened to the album again and I will say that after seeing the movie some tracks are more memorable now.

I guess what I was looking for was an album that could stand up on its own such as when the first three movies came out. I jut feel pre-internet, downloads etc....having the music to a movie made you relive it over an over and sometimes i think that it is just nostalgia, but the music from that time is still living up to its potential even now.

And I respect JW if he is breaking the mold by attempting something new. And being in the creative indusrty I can understand how you have to continue down differnet avenues.

But before he scores his last film.........It would be nice to hear another bombastic all out frenzy for old times sake....

It's not JW's fault if there's not many set pieces.A lot of the film consists short scenes that go from one place to another,so he had to do many transitionnal fanfares.He scored the few longer sequences appropriatly(Lament,Anakin vs ObiWan/Battle of the Heroes).

The space battle could have been better scored,though I suspect a Ben Burtt hack job here.
