Williams to Conduct Nashville Symphony in September
stuttersteps replied to Will's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I just bought two tickets front row orchestra left for the $275 price! Been trolling the seat map all week and tonight I saw these suddenly available so had to scoop them up before the public sale tomorrow (I did the subscriber option and bought two other concerts to go to). My wife's out of town that night so I might be looking for a JWFan in the area. I'm stoked as I've only seen the Maestro in concert once back in '92, the highlight of which was the Far & Away suite--looking forward to Rey's Theme live! -
Hey guys, Has anyone listened to David Collins' analysis of this theme on the Star Wars Oxygen podcast? In episode 10 (around the 27:30 mark), he makes a pretty fascinating "revelation" about the first five notes of the theme. Whether it's intentional by the Maestro or coincidental, it's an intriguing find!

Omaha Beach (dare I say, the main theme of Saving Private Theme). To me, conveys the weight and dignity of the soldiers w/o being overly sentimental.

Question about the DVD commentaries and John Williams

In the Home Alone commentary, both Chris Columbus and Macaulay Culkin speak of Williams several times. Culkin kept repeating the phrase: "he [Williams] never misses." -

I've always been partial to his themes in Backdraft, especially the Brothers one serving as a counterpoint to the main theme in the last track. And Zimmer discusses it here:

Went a bit overboard w/ the visuals, but the arrangement of themes is nice.

Music composed but not conducted by John Williams

I love McCarthy's ascending MacGyverising motif. Very simple, yet effective. All four of the MacGyver composers came up w/ their own motifs, but McCarthy's took the cake. -
I thoroughly enjoyed the score to Home Alone 2 when it came out. After immersing myself in the original, when HA2 was released the new variations on the themes (esp Setting/Preparing the Trap) was incredible to hear. I was wondering: Which version of Holiday Flight do people prefer? The original descending one from the first or the quick ascending triplet from the second? Incidently, does anyone have any insight into why Williams "modified" the piece? He recorded the latter version w/ the Boston Pops in the Joy to the World album also released in 92.

Does Williams have perfect pitch? I've often wondered but this is the first time I've read about the possibility. -

From what I've read, people either enjoy Michael Giacchino's witty track titles or could do without 'em. I for one think they're great fun and reflect his personality greatly. In re-visiting an older soundtrack, I remembering laughing at the cleverness of this one: Pair O'Docs from Back to the Future II I don't know if Alan Silvestri came up with it himself, but it's absolutely brilliant. Anyone have any others?
