I'm sorry, still no comment on its phrasing similarity to When You Wish Upon A Star? -

I don't get people who won't listen to a score before seeing a film, the one opportunity to experience it as pure musical storytelling, before it's wedded to the images. Anyway... ...Has anyone mentioned that this 7-note theme and it's variations is some sort of minor play on When You Wish Upon A Star, which was the original inspiration or intention for CE3K 5-note theme. Sublime. -

This is a cracking score, and a great evolution of the sound, the themes and the groove.

Michael Giacchino & Nami Melumad's MEDAL OF HONOR: ABOVE AND BEYOND (2020)
Miz replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
I'll have to listen to this album again, because even the highlights seemed simplistic and regressive to me. Quite cartoony and some derivative themes that went nowhere. Compared to Airborne's edgy and propulsive sound, with motifs all over the place, and varied approaches to different action tracks. -

Not interested in which themes appear, as we don't really know how connected to the mythos this story will be. I felt Newman's Bond scores were a big let-down, after the power of Arnold's various scores. Newman enters Star Wars at a time where various styles have been tried and some generally considered valid reflections of the universe (galaxy)... Goransson being the best, surely. So I think Newman could put a great spin on it, given a quality film to work with. I love a variety of Newman's scores, and some of his cues should be held up as the best that film score can be. But I think his straight action music lacks punch. I'd like someone to prove me otherwise.

I was so disappointed by S3 score, because I relistened to S1 & 2 so much and loved the romantic, thematic aspects. None of that in S3 really. I suppose the content it was scoring was darker, but certainly a more stylistic move towards atmosphere over melody or rhythm.

Anyone else listening to Foundation season 3? I liked the S1 soundtrack, it had some highlights and set out some great themes. The S2 soundtrack I loved... but S3 seems to have fewer earworms, melodies and lyrical passages. There's more of the ambient, electronic and rock-inspired elements, and no new themes to speak of, so it's not quite as accessible. I will give it more listens...

Exotic Themes Volume 2 is out. I don't find this one as compelling as the first... it might be that he wrote more attractive themes in his early career, or that I was younger and more into his work at the time. I certainly haven't listened to these later scores half as much, or at all. I'm probably not the only Giacchino fan who found out his talent only extended so far. I also can't get into the interpretations as much this time. Tomorrowland is the slowest tempo of the lot, and I thought we'd get a fun-packed version of Pin-Ultimate Experience. Still going to listen to this lots this summer though... good soundtrack to Europe's current heatwave. -

Has nobody mentioned that You Are My Homeward is exactly the melody from JP's Mars Needs Moms? I have no problem with this being the case. The main theme from MNM and HTTYD have similar chord 'contours' and progression maybe. Both are great. -

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025, Gareth Edwards / David Koepp)
Miz replied to Jay's topic in General Discussion
The idea of this unimaginative, stand-alone monster feature having anything to do with the granduer of the first film, or John Williams' scores, is pretty thin. I thought they could lean into the 'dinosaurs everywhere', examining our relationship with nature etc. philosophising that has slowly evaporated from the series. Alas no. -

Is that because a flute doesn't have sharp 'attack'? Or not... they seem to nail it at the end with the Keys theme. -

Theme analyzers, hear ye! What crossover is there from Bear's RoP to Shore's LotR score? The only thing I know is the first 4 notes of Numenor's theme coming from the rising motif at Argonath, the Kings of Gondor (FotR). And do we think the series would, or should, include any of Shore's themes before the 5 seasons is over? I would be disappointed if we didn't hear the Ring theme used, even sparingly, for the One Ring. And if the harfoots are to settle in the Shire, it would be a disappointing missed opportunity to not hear the Shire theme at that point. I think it even follows, in terms of the scale/key used, from Wandering Day. What a segue that would be! EDIT: Sorry just seen a similar discussion in the other thread. My point stands though, if Amazon can't afford to put in the Shire theme, what a loss! -
