#904526 Early Williams (1960) - Journey to a Wedding (GE Theater episode)

Posted by filmmusic on 20 May 2013 - 04:15 PM

Thanks to Jeff Eldridge at FSM (http://www.filmscore...93880&archive=0),

a General Electric Theater episode was confirmed (among 4) to have a Williams score.

I present you here the End Credits of the specific episode ("Journey to a Wedding - Season 9 Episode 7) which as Mr. Eldridge says "boasts a lovely melody".

(it reminds me of Heidi a bit)

#902021 Favourite 80s synth scores

LOVE the Starman theme, although I normally listen to the orchestral recording.

I loved the film (only saw it once). I didn't remember the music and I'm listening to it right now!

Yes, it's very good! (Y)

#894693 The Composer's Thread

Posted by filmmusic on 09 April 2013 - 08:14 PM

I'm not sure if I have posted this here again. Forgive me if I have.

It's a piece from 2005 (when i was 25 years old) .

Yes, it's evident from which piece it's influenced, that's why I remembered it today, since I'm studying the film and the score.

It seems to be the piece that people like more, although I really have to move on and try to evolve.. :)

The solo violin is by a Russian Violinist. I think she played it very well indeed!

(the whole piece is with soundfonts and the live violin. I didn't have sample libraries back then)

#894233 Epic by Danny Elfman

Posted by filmmusic on 06 April 2013 - 10:11 PM

I wish Elfman would leave for a while the animation/fantasy/comic type of scoring with the celestas/choir/small cells composition, and make something else.

Still I'm waiting to hear something like Sommersby which is among his best scores.

Why doesn't anyone hire him for a romantic drama?

or a romantic period drama? that would be new!

It's a pity that many composers are typecasted.

Same goes for Christopher Young.

Murded in the First is a masterpiece, and he's only offered thrillers to score.

#891092 Irina's Theme is a masterpiece

Posted by filmmusic on 21 March 2013 - 05:59 PM

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i was listening to the soundtrack of Crystal skull these days.

believe it or not, I had seen the movie only once, and the same goes for the soundtrack.

Now I've seen the movie again, heard again the soundtrack, and studied the music.

I must say that I think Irina's theme is a masterpiece, one of the best Williams themes of the last years.

Too bad that it didn't benefit from a better film.

I strongly believe that if this was the main theme of an old classic film-noir (or a Hitchcock film or a Bette Davis movie or something) it would become an instant classic, like the Laura theme or others!

The concert arrangement is sublime!

Also, the way it climaxes to 1.33 of the cd track!! Although the theme starts as a theme for a dangerous and seductive woman, in that spot the music becomes like it's written for a long lost love or something!!

#889409 Godfather theme in major!

Posted by filmmusic on 10 March 2013 - 10:53 PM

this guy does various music pieces in the parallel minor/or major scale of an original piece.

It sounds difficult to manipulate the original recording but anyway.

here's the Godfather theme!

I really hope he could do some Williams! :biglaugh: (eg. Imperial March or something)

#888936 What are the most uninteresting themes of Williams?

Posted by filmmusic on 05 March 2013 - 03:52 PM

anything and everything from Hook.

This is among my 5 best scores of all time!!

I didn't even think about it..

#886575 Empire Of The Sun (OST)

Posted by filmmusic on 18 February 2013 - 09:03 PM

I just finished the film..

yes, the music is wonderfull..

Looking at these old films with such music, you really feel "you're watching a movie"! You feel you have a cinematic experience!

Something that I cannot say for today's films with heavy drone and pedal music, and hand-held cameras..

Well, the eastern ethnic sounding cues in The Last Emperor were David Byrne's (and the western symphonic ones by Sakamoto)
