  1. Last really good mix for a JW score was probably Memoirs of a Geisha.
  2. This great Friedhofer track, from Charles Gerhardt’s Captain Blood album, is one of the highlights of the Classic Film Scores series (and one of my absolute favorites).
  3. I only started reading this thread about a month ago, but it has been fantastic. ‘I have come,’ he said. ‘But I do not choose now to do what I came to do. I will not do this deed. The Ring is mine!’ It’s always bothered me that Jackson’s film truncated this so much. The stage musical has it more or less verbatim, and it was a highlight— for me at least.
  4. That was my first thought on seeing “missing chapters from Fellowship “ if Shore is writing music for this, yay! If not…well, hmmm.
  5. I’m pretty sure I had an avatar a couple decades ago when I first started posting. Thanks for the list. That’s a lot of could-have-been JW scores over years. Not going to complain too much though, everything post 2005 has seemed like a bonus.
  6. Is there a definitive list somewhere of how many Spielberg projects have been announced but never made?
  7. In no particular order: The Fly Looking For Richard Soul of the Ultimate Nation The Yards
  8. It’s Christmas until Candlemas (Feb 2nd). So keep the party rolling.
  9. A compilation of orchestral Christmas music, of particular interest because of several tracks conducted by Charles Gerhardt. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is especially festive: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-2lCm17Zg3Q&pp=ygUsR29kIHJlc3QgeWUgbWVycnkgZ2VudGxlbWVuIGNoYXJsZXMgZ2VyaGFyZHQ%3D And my favorite, O Holy Night: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8DP47zKwfgU&pp=ygUdbyBob2x5IG5pZ2h0IGNoYXJsZXMgZ2VyaGFyZHQ%3D Frustratingly, while the first CD is mostly comprised of the Gerhardt tracks, the other three CDs all have one or two additional tracks. And the selections from other artists are of variable quality and interest. (Though none of it is truly objectionable as, say, background music at a Christmas party)I’ll likely rip and cut down to CDs worth of material. I’ve also been unable to figure if the Gerhardt tracks can be traced back to any particular album(s), Readers Digest Music has released and re-released their library of Christmas music endlessly and in many forms over decades.
  10. Yup. 7.5. I’m pretty sure I wanted to be a cowboy at that age, too.
  11. My son, going through a cowboy phase for…years now, loves that album and is constantly playing it via streaming. I can’t believe I never noticed the JW credit. it is a fantastic album.
  12. Taxi Driver suite from Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Herrmann album
  13. https://www.amazon.com/Yo-Yo-Ma-Years-Outside-Box/dp/B002IC10Y8 It was first released as part of this 90 cd box set. It’s selling for under $500 now, but I recall it being significantly more when it came out. it was a pretty big deal when this Williams set came out and it was actually affordable.
  14. It was very specifically stated on the site that the pre-orders could not be changed or cancelled because they were pre-orders. This is what prompted me to order it when it was it was still available; it sounded just strange enough to make me nervous.
  15. I’ve gotten the shipping notice for mine, but like others have said if you track it looks like it’s just sitting there. The way this is going I half expect to receive an email at some point: “We are sorry to inform you that your order has been cancelled, we did not actually expect anyone to order this product so we did not make any.”
