Like you Ray I also started off on the trumpet in school for a couple of months and quickly got used to reading treble clef but then switched to the trombone (which I then played for about 3 years) so I had to re-adjust to read the bass clef relatively quickly. Agree with others that sight reading comes naturally after a while - it's just something you accomplish with time. My highlight was playing a trilogy of John Williams (Jurassic Park followed by Schindlers List followed by Raiders March) with my school band at the Royal Festival Hall in London in the 'National Music for Youth' competition. Fantastic experience! Everyone used to love us playing the piece as they recognised the fantastic music. And thats how I got into film music (and especially John Williams) really...
