Towering Inferno -
I like this score very much. My favourite tracks are "Pete and Dorinda", "Saying Goodbye" and Dofrnida's Solo Flight".

John Williams luncheon/rehearsal update Detroit 2008
orrakul replied to David Coscina's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Thanks for posting your pictures, Ray Barnsbury - how lucky you are to have met JW! I believe that the DSO played the same program as last year's program in Columbus (which I didn't attend, but which is posted on this site). In the "Monsters, Beauties & Heroes" medley, I think I heard "An Affair To Remember", "Jaws", "Superman" and one other theme ("Robin Hood"??). Does anyone know what themes are in this piece or whether it's available on any of the compilation albums? -
I took a day off work and my brother and I drove to Detroit from Toronto (4 hours). I enjoyed the show; it was a privilege to listen to some of my favourite music with John Williams conducting just feet away from me. I enjoyed the concert, but the DSO wasn't as polished as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was a couple of years ago, when I first attended a concert conducted by John Williams. Perhaps this was because of insufficient rehearsal time... John Williams seemed tired right from the start of the concert. He mentioned that he had to be up early today in L.A. to work on the last reel of Indy 4. During intermission, my brother and I decided, out of respect for his age etc., not to try to get an authograph/photo with the maestro. We really wanted to, but decided that he might not be in the mood for a meet and greet with fans... I don't know if he had to catch a commercial flight to L.A., or if there was a private jet waiting for him. Either way, I do not think it was rude for him to split right after the show...

Goldsmith versus Williams!
orrakul replied to #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal's topic in General Discussion
I prefer the Dreamworks logo music; it has a very "American" sound to me, and I think it captures the essence of the company very well. I actually prefer James Horner's 75th anniversary music for the Universal logo to the present music by Goldsmith. Having said that, I do like the Goldsmith version - it's even on my iPod... -
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra just today decided to put tickets on sale for non-subscribers. As I post this, the DSO website isn't accepting orders from non-subscribers, but the box office is accepting orders by telephone (313-576-5111).

This is absolutely one of my favourite Williams scores. I was interested to read Alexcremers say that "Stanley & Iris" is its "sister" score; I shall have to have to find myself a copy of Stanley & Iris, now.

I thought that John Williams' issues with the Boston Popos were because some musicians felt that his music selections were too"light" and included too much film music and not enough "serious" music. Anyone know anything about this?

I was under the impression that Indy IV had a firm script already...?

Weekly JW Score Review#2: Catch Me If You Can
orrakul replied to Miguel Andrade's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
"Learning The Ropes" is also a great cue. -
I think JW's net worth is in the 9 digits; that's $100 Million or more - not at all unrealistic, given his longevity and stutre in the film industry...
