#901112 Man Of Steel by Hans Zimmer (WaterTower Records OST June 11 2013)

Posted by gkgyver on 06 May 2013 - 11:08 PM

I'm sorry if I digress for a moment, but sometimes I think I'm either too dumb or too smart to understand things. And the connection between a movie soundtrack and shiny stickers or postcards is a big mystery to me.

Who buys a soundtrack for postcards?

If I bought a CD with stickers, I would only think "great, where shall I put this crap?"

The perfect composer for Man Of Steel (amongst other films).

#896078 What Are You Eating Tonight?

Posted by gkgyver on 16 April 2013 - 02:41 PM

@ Alice

I actually didn't eat anything per se. Six glasses of clean water with maple sirup, cayenne, and lemon juice, plus the same amount of just clean water. And one bottle of warm sea salt solution in the morning to clean out the intestines and everything that is collected there.
I did that 11 days, and then it's a period of three days in which you ease out of it, first a day with three litres of orange juice, then a day with vegetable juice and fruit, then a day with fruit and vegetables, and finally a return to the usual diet.

I'm not big on soy products. First of all, there's some controversy on how much of its proteins is actually digestable, and secondly, if you want good soy, it's usually not cheap, and in relation to the taste, I wouldn't spend money on that.
Better sources for protein are certain vegetables, peas, and especially nuts and seeds imo.

Meat may have protein, but just a fraction of it is digestable, and generally, it does far more harm than good, even if you have the best meat you can buy.

Also, it's generally right that your body will ask for what it needs, but many mistake that with habit or simply addiction. Most industrial food is very addictive, in a bad way.

#892096 The Hobbit Film Trilogy Thread

Lol lots of it is true The eagles thing is something that stems from the books, so there isnt that much one can do about that. It was probably a mistake to show the Lonely Mountain from the Craddock though.

#891942 The Hobbit Part 1 SCORE Discussion thread

How is it easy to tell? The orchestration is 99% the same, and the same orchestra that performed LotR also performed the Hobbit.
How does listening to the symphony make tracking easy to spot? It's not like the symphony recording was used in the film.

The Rivendell scene is most certainly tracked. And even if it isn't, it's an exact copy.

Like "You like to get out of here, orc?" "What do I need to do?" "Let me show you ..."

Followed by Howard Shore's re-recording of "Evenstar", now a general "Elven Love" theme?

What's wrong with Alice?

I've been wondering that, considering she doesn't seem to post anymore.

#888442 Poirot - Christopher Gunning

So you are a Poirot fanatic as well as a LotR fanatic, Mikko? You're becoming more sympathetic to me with each day!
I've read practically every Poirot novel in existence and have the old album as well.

Now, if they could release another edition of Patrick Gowers' Sherlock Holmes, that was even better.

Habemus Incanus!

gkgyver, you are so busted!  You do realise that your failure to use the accusative case in this instance now carries a mandatory six-week ban? Edit it quickly before Incanus spots the mistake!

There are Latin words that have the -us in this case. Since Incanus is now an impartial moderator, I prefer to think of him as a neutrum ;)

Plus, it rhymes ...

#887268 Best Score Oscar Poll 2013: who WILL win vs. who SHOULD win

Posted by gkgyver on 23 February 2013 - 12:59 AM

I don't want to get heat, but he's correct in the sense that Lincoln has War Horse as a template. It's really obvious. And it has nothing to do with the Williams "sound".

The structure of the scores are totally different, especially as presented on CD.  Granted the style of the scores are pretty similar, but I would attribute that to the "Williams sound."

But the Oscars don't care about CD presentation, they evaluate film presentation.

Also, the structure  is not really relevant when the style of the scores are very similar. I listen to scores mainly for their sound and style, and not really their structure. And I don't think the Academy goes that deep into "structure" either. When something sounds similar, it sounds similar, end of story.

That's most likely also one of the main reasons why An Unexpected Journey wasn't nominated. They just don't care about structural and thematic connections when the whole score as presented in the film sounds like a LotR highlight reel.

Re-releasing sucky films that sucked 10 years ago and didn't get any better over time in a format that emphasis the fakeness of everything is sucking oxygen. Releasing the complete Williams scores that most fans would drool over, however, is not.

#886088 Obnoxious, cocky orchestration - will it ever make a comeback in film?

Posted by gkgyver on 14 February 2013 - 08:39 PM

Akira Ikufube's Godzilla work is still the best at this.  Mainly because it was written on such a short schedule. Days I think?

Some of the most iconic motifs come from his Godzilla scores. Invasion of the Astro-Monster or Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, or Godzilla vs. Mothra ... or the end title march from Godzilla vs. Destroyah.
